Organ Donation
I would like to enrol in the live
kidney
donation
programme. My only concern is 'what if my brother needs it'. He was hospitalised with decompensated cirrhosis in 2019 and was given a 20% chance of survival. He miraculously recovered and is now compensated. All his bloods are 'normal'.

Remaining on a low dose of pred indefinitely
A lot of posts discuss tapering off steroids as a priority, but I'm wondering if there are some members who are happy to remain on a low dose of pred (say, around 5mg or below) and have their GP or rheumatologist's blessing to do so. I mention this because during my last visit to see my rheumatologist

Xenotransplantation of pig heart
Hello everyone. I’m sure we have all read about the recent pig kidneys transplanted into humans successfully. Well, it appears it’s been done again but this time it looks like a heart transplant was done. It’s too early to tell, but this case here seems to be more beneficial towards making it a reality

LUMP IN THROAT??
Hi I have been experiencing a flare up for 3 months, they have never lasted so long before. I am always bloated and getting pain in my upper back, I now feel as though I have a lump in my throat when I swallow. I have had a very stressful year with my partner being diagnosed with metastatic breast

GCA, PMR, now vasculitis
Hi folks! Diagnosed with GCA in 2015, with PMR in 2021, and now they tell me I have Vasculitis. I am to have a kidney biopsy soon and this is all too confusing. Has anyone had this problem and perhaps have some good advice for me?

New, targeted therapy inhibits specific immune cells associated with lupus nephritis
'Intervention targets T cells rather than multiple immune cell types," Prof. Chaim Putterman says. Lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus), an autoimmune disease in which the body recognizes and attacks its own tissues, can affect many organs, including the kidneys. About fifty percent of patients diagnosed

C3 glomerulopathy
Hi, my niece diagonosed C3 glomerulopathy and her both kidneys almost non functional. Currently on dialysis. Anyone here who has the same diagnose or who is expertise in this topic help me to explain what will be the treatment options as the doctor said she is not suitable for transplant due to recurrence

Do I need a specialist?
I have been diagnosed with APS following a stroke at age 40. My care is managed by a stroke consultant at a local hospital. I have minimal change disease of my kidneys (linked to the immune system) and I’m wondering about gluten intolerance. My problem is that I don’t think my consultant knows that much

Did you stop your biologic for 4th vaccination?
Finally have my 4th jab booked for next Thursday 13th Jan and am trying to work out whether to stop the Adalimumab for two weeks before and after or not. Have had conflicting advice from sensible sources. Rheum nurse said to inject as normal as would be worse to flare and pointed to the versusarthritis

Hello I’m on the transplant list I was hoping to get a transplant before dialysis but don’t know if it will happen . I had one offer that didn’t work out I found out then I am going to be hard to match cause I have high antibodies. I wasn’t even aware there was such a thing. How long did you wait before

Shaking
I received a kidney transplant in 2008. For the last few months I have been shaking a lot especially my hands. Taking 4 mg. of Prograf. Doctor increased it because level was low on blood test. Has anyone experienced this kind of shaking? Thanks

Endometriosis spread to the kidney & ureter, nephrostomy fitted and more major surgery ahead… any advice or similar experience?
Since my last post I have been in and out of hospital ☹️ I had lots of blood in the urine and severe pain in my back and side. After tests and scans they found my left kidney wasn’t functioning and the ureter was blocked all down to growth of endometriosis. The surgeon confirmed in my previous surgery
