Shaking

I received a kidney transplant in 2008. For the last few months I have been shaking a lot especially my hands. Taking 4 mg. of Prograf. Doctor increased it because level was low on blood test. Has anyone experienced this kind of shaking?

Thanks

Yes and my doctor also adjusted my dose of Tacro. Now I am taking a different medication.

Have to agree it is probably the medication. Take care and try some relaxation techniques. Check with your doctor to see if it will mellow out with time or if you do need to change medication. A lot depends on your coping skills and level of frustration.

You need to talk with the doctor that prescribed the increase in your Prograf. It could be that the dose is now too high? Have you had a recent blood draw showing what your level is now? Could also just take time.

It is always low. Thanks for your input.

Since you have been on that dose for a couple of months, maybe they will need to switch you to a different immunosuppressant. Make sure you tell your doctor about the hand shaking.Take care.

Tacro causes me to be very shakey. I had transplant in 2009. Shakes and tremors were horrible at first then adjusted with body getting used to tacro and other meds. About a year ago I started shaking again and blood test showed tacro levels were too high after being on the same dose for 10+ years so tacro dosage was lowered from 2 mg twice a day to 1.5 mg twice a day. Levels are back to normal now and still some shakes but not too bad.

I too was on Prograf and unfortunately that is one of the side effects. That will not go away, I was told. I had to stop Prograf because it made my hemoglobin drop drastically and put me in the hospital for 9 days. I'm on cyclosporin know and doing great. Still shaking though.

Prograf is the cause, without a doubt. I had the shakes so bad I could barely write my name or hold a knife and fork. My hands would go into spasms too. It was awful. The shakes only got worse with time. My doctors switched me from Prograf to Envarsus. I take it only in the morning instead of 2 times a day like the Prograf. Miracle! The shakes are mostly gone except every now and then, and when I do get them, they are not too bad. Good luck.

Hi, Received Transplant Dec 2019. I had terrible shakiness until after around a year, they lowered my Prograf (originally 6 a day, now 3 a day. My shakiness is mostly gone. Hope I can stay on this lower dose. Shakiness is very difficult to do any small motor skills like writing, drawing etc. I hope you can figure it out with your doctors. Best
