The B12 mediastorm
Hi, Apologies if this has been posted already. English language article from Stichting B12 Tekort ( Dutch B12 website)about a media storm triggered by a press release about a B12 study. It shows how a lack of detail in a press release can lead to panic. https://stichtingb12tekort.nl/project/the-b12-mediastorm-increased-risk-of-mortality-due-to-high-b12

Does a lack of intrinsic factor prevent iron absorption?
Does a lack of intrinsic factor prevent the absorption of iron too or is it simply B12? If so what would be the best way to get iron into the body and does anyone know of any decent iron supplements that are readily absorbed? Thank you all for any help

Stop taking vit b12 before blood test...?
I've just noticed that on the Medichecks website under their Advanced Thyroid Function test it states: "Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks prior to this test" Is this new? And anyone know why?! I knew you weren't supposed to take biotin containing supplements for a while before but b12 is a new one

Is it iron probs ? Or B12?
Hi, been struggling for a while and looking for other explanations, - just got iron panel results so looking for any clues whether iron is an issue for me. I had helicobacter pylori a few years back and know that can affect gut absorption of so many things. I have many symptoms of both but I always get

B12 deficiency Neurological Symptoms
In the UK I was diagnosed with B12 (not PA) deficiency in Oct 2020 and have had the 6 loading doses, and one month booster. I see mentioned on this site "neurological symptoms" of B12 deficiency but can someone advise me what those are. I increasingly suffer from muscle twitching, and after gym exercises

Serum B12 levels compared to active B12 levels
Hi everyone I am new to this forum as have hypothyroidism , but struggle to raise my serum b12 levels over 450 ( in a range of 209-900). Whilst I’m working on my medication, a trichologist did say to me a while ago that B12 deficiency could easily be the root cause of my hairloss. What I’m trying to

B12 Patches
I have been reading all the posts about difficulty with no objections of vitamin b12 and just wondered why no one seems to have tried patches. Have I been kidding myself?

Vit B12 and Folate reference ranges
The reference ranges of my local hospital’s lab for Vit B12 is 197 to 711 ng/L and for Folate 1.9 to 25 ug/L. Is this typical? Is Vit B12 deficiency defined as having a reading between 0 to 196 and Folate deficiency 0 to 1.8? I would be interested in hearing what readings others had before they moved

B12 level is too high?
Last week I have my levels checked, including B12. The result is higher than normal, around 1100. I don't understand what it means, but doctor only suggested me not to take any supplements. For the past 4 months I've taken supplement B12 methylcobalamin, could it be that I've overconsumed B12 vit? I

NICE CKS link about B12 deficiency symptoms
Hi, Apologies if this has been posted before. Thought it might be helpful as shows a wide range of symptoms that B12 deficiency can cause. Folate deficiency is also mentioned. https://cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anaemia-b12-folate-deficiency/diagnosis/signs-symptoms/ I like the fact there is a note that says

Vitamin D self injection?
Hi everyone - I’ve been treated for b12 deficiency for the past 12 years and am prone to vitamin D deficiency also. (I have hypothyroidism which often impacts uptake of these vitamins). I started self injecting vitamin B12 recently, after barely managing with injections every other month from my doctor

What blood tests to get
Hi can anyone tell me what blood tests I order or ask for for a full iron panel not just ferritin test.. I can see my ferritin is going up quite quickly which I find strange being as it takes me ages with supplements.. I would just like to know my actual iron levels not guided by ferritin alone
