Is FH as dangerous as we're lead to believe ?
I've posted about this study before, but as there are a fair number of new people on the board, it's worth repeating because it's one of the few studies that attempts to look at what happens in familial hypercholesterolemia without selection for early cardiovascular disease. To explain this simply

Should I take statins when I have familial hypercholesterolemia?
Hello there, I'm not sure how this works as this is my first post but here goes!? I am 40 this year. My father died from a heart attack aged 62 and had cholesterol levels of 12-13. I have inherited this (along with my other siblings) and have cholesterol levels that range from 5-10 (10.2 most recently

Coming off Statins
I am a 76 year old male having had two cardio versions and one cardiac ablation. I also had two stents fitted about 3 years ago following a mild heart attack. I had been on various statins for about 5 years with muscular weakening side effects. I decided to take myself off statins (Atorvastatin

Can PAF be resolved by a stent?
18 months ago I had a single DE stent placed in the LAD as a consequence of (entirely symptomatic) very irregular pulse after exercise and, when tested with a stress ECG, PAF when in recovery from the treadmill exercise. First cardiac consultant, who inserted the stent to alleviate the "75-90% blockage

Please can someone explain triglycerides?
Other than just a number on a cholesterol blood test what are they and why are they bad? As I understand it hydrogenated oils [palm, rapeseed and sunflower] are oils that are treated to solidify them for convenience and are apparently bad for us. Why are they worse than the liquid oil? Other than

Aids to statins.
If you take statins you Must have your liver checked in a blood cholesterol test every two months cause it can destroy your liver. The last two months I've had three stents - besides others years preceeding that - put in when I do everything I can to prevent it a cholesterol problem except taking statins
