Low folate - what causes it and what does it affect?
Hello, I recently had some private blood tests and my folate level was low: Vit D: 100 nmol/L (50 - 175) Folate (serum): 9.15 nmol/L (8.83 - 60.8) Ferritin: 100 ug/L (13 - 150) Active B12: 131 pmol/L (37.5 - 188) I was surprised with the low folate because my diet includes plenty of folate-rich foods

B12 now back to 'Normal'.
A few months ago I became very ill and after a series of blood tests was found to have very low B12 levels. I had all the symptoms of B12 deficiency/Pernicious Anaemia. My doctor prescribed Cyanocobalamin 1mg per day. After taking this for two months blood tests show that my B12 levels are now close

Anaemia problems ?
Pooh bear (the wife) has been having a very rough time of it recently. Surgery to rebuild her hip following too many steroids, breathing problems and sepsis which thankfully was caught early. A constant problem she seems to have is Anaemia, particularly after a bad flare. Her haemoglobin count falls

Eye twitching is back. Why?
I have continued to take every other day injections with hydroxocobalamin for the past month. Unfortunately I ran out of hydroxocobalamin so I switched to cyanocobalamin. But some of my symptoms have returned including the eye twitch. Do you think this is dependent on the b12?

What indicates anaemia
Can anybody shed any light on my blood count please? My red blood count is low, hct 37 and my haematologist said it's nothing to worry about but I am struggling with my running in that although I feel I'm pushing myself as hard as possible I'm 5 + minutes slower doing my park run from pre pandemic days

Which choice of B12 to buy?
Hi Everyone, I want to put an order into Bodfeld for my next lot of B12 Ampules but am confused? The usual ones I buy Rotexmedica Depot are showing in a different box (£48 18 for a 100) It used to be with black and red lettering and this one is a peachy colour. I also see it says Cyanocobalamin and

How long does the "depot" last of a B12 injection?
The hydroxocobalamin injections I have seen all say "DEPOT". Does this mean an intramuscular injection of B12 forms a sort of "nodule" which dissipates slowly over a long period. Perhaps days? Could it be as long as weeks? I had the idea that B12 was rapidly absorbed by the flow of blood in the muscle

Is it possible to be deficient in nutrients, even if nutrient levels in your blood are optimal?
Just like thyroid hormones in the blood can be at optimal levels but may not be reaching the cells or may not be absorbed properly by the cells, I wonder if something similar could happen with vitamins and minerals. Vit. D3 65 (25 - 80) Vit. B12 1057 (180 - 914) Folate >20 (4.0 - 19.9) Ferritin 150 (

The thyroid hormone converting enzyme human deiodinase 1 is inhibited by gold ions from inorganic salts, organic substances, ...
All that glisters… Not in the least clear whether this is likely to be of interest or significance to anyone. But I do think that the impact of anything on thyroid-related enzymes is an important avenue. [i]Chem Biol Interact . 2021 Oct 15;109709. doi: 10.1016/j.cbi.2021.109709. Online ahead of print

Cytogenetics interpretation help needed
First time to post my profile and a question. I was diagnosed during a separate procedure in November 2019 and was on W&W until May 2021 when a scan showed a lump developing on my spine along with worsening anaemia. Consultant decided time was right to start treatment. Obinutuzumab initially which generated

Low serum B12 but high Active B12 (HoloTC) - confused!
I just picked up 5 years worth of blood test results (frustrated with being in the dark about results all the time) and checked out my latest results. For reference, I'm in Australia. On my most recent test on 16th July 2021 (before any B12 supplementation): Total B12 is 250 pmol/L Active B12 (HoloTC

Abnormal bloods - can anyone help me interpret
Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your time. I may be in totally the wrong place but have felt so ill that I am trying to join up dots. I have recently been diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis which explains a great deal. However, I also have all kinds of other very high or abnormal blood test

Is it ok to self-inject everyday when starting treatment?
Hello all. Just yesterday I gave myself an injection of B12 - that was my first sslf injection of it. I am aware of the NICE guidelines for the treatment of B12 anemia with neurological symptoms and I do indeed have strong symptoms which seem like they can only be neurological in nature like numbness

Blood test results. Help, please
Hi, this is my first time here so apologies if I’m in the wrong place. I recently had blood tests which show I have Hashimoto’s, but also seem to indicate problems with possible anaemia. Ferritin 43 (13-200) B12 235 (197-771) Folate 10.3 (3.89-26.8) Eosinophil0.6 (0.0-0.4) Lymphocyte 1.3 (1.0-4.0) Neutrophil3.2

Possible link between lowered folate reading in blood test and numbness
Just been put on a 3 month course of Folic Acid tablets 5mg 1 per day to boost my folate readings. Apparently it helps restore nerve issues and boosts red blood cell. GCA damages these so maybe others have folate issues connected with numbness. Has anyone else had this as a possible solution to numbness

Reduction of blood tests due to shortage of tubes
Yesterday I read in the BBC news that a women had been refused her thyroid bloods test along with a cholesterol test due to shortages in England and Wales of blood test tubes. Has anyone been refused recently. I also read the situation will get worse and will continue for months, which is very concerning
