Does anyone have experience with exposure to cold as a therapy?
In researching approaches to enhancing the sympathetic portion of the autonomic nervous system, I came across the concept of cold shock as a neuroprotective activity. Although it doesn't appear to be pleasant, I wonder if it might work. There is a protein under investigation as a therapy for accomplishing

Folate deficiency
I recently started methotrexate and now after my first blood test it has been found I'm very low on folate so will need daily folic acid. Also caught a nasty cold and so am really struggling ... No energy...and now have to stop methotrexate until the cold goes.. not the best start to my new medication

Synarel and Utovlan together? - your experiences please!
Hi there, Does anyone have any experiences taking Synarel and Utovlan together. I've been on Synarel a month(along with Livial) but am still having periods. My wedding is in 3 weeks so my consultant has advised I can take Utovlan a week before to stop the bleeding on the day. I'm just a tad worried

Fluconazole
Hi all, I have well managed Hashis and I'm on 50mcg Levo. I have recurrent thrush so I've just been offered by gyno a 6 month suppression therapy with fluconazole. I wonder if any of you has had any experience with this medication? I'm very afraid it will disrupt this fine balance I've found with my

Bad cold not getting better
A week ago I saw a friend who was recovering from a cold. You’ve guessed it! I caught the first cold I’ve had for several years. Not only that it’s worse than a sniffle, I’ve slept for most of two days and nights. I’m assuming it’s all down to my rubbish immune system. I’m beginning to think I’m mad

Association between dietary onion intake and subclinical hypothyroidism in adults: a population-based study from an iodine-replete area
What a very odd paper - which really doesn't get anywhere in terms of explanation. Nonetheless, it does raise my curiosity as to what might be happening and why. Pickled? Scallion? Raw? Cooked? Red, white or brown? [i]Endocrine. 2021 Jul 31. doi: 10.1007/s12020-021-02790-2. Online ahead of print.

Curcumin as an anti inflammatory
So many ask about tumeric’s ability to decrease inflammation, I thought this article would be of interest. It appears curcumin may actually be able to down regulate IL-6. I believe Actemra works by blocking IL-6. Maybe the stumbling block is the amount of tumeric needed? https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Can I swim in sea in uk summer while pregnant? (Cold water minimum 15 oC - max 18 oC)
Hello All, I am 27 weeks pregnant - IVF pregnancy with no hiccups so far touch wood. I am going to Cornwall on Friday for my Summer holiday and usully enjoy a swim in the sea there in the little bay, not miles from shore, in my wet suit. The water is cold even in Summer but not freezing obviously.

As some of you know who have been active in my recent posts, I started seeing an Immunologist a few weeks ago. She encouraged me to get the third shot, and began blood tests different from what our CLL Specialists give us. I had the first Pneumonia vaccine shot sometime earlier this year, or maybe

Starving the bacterium that causes pneumonia
The invitations, decorations, candles and the cake – there’s a lot to remember when you organise a birthday party for a five-year-old. One thing we thankfully take for granted in Australia is that our five-year-olds reach this milestone at all. But close to half a million children infected worldwide

Foods that kill Prostate Cancer Cells
Made this list years ago. Best to keep them in mind when grocery shopping or cooking. Walnuts, have to eat a ton. Hot peppers, watch out for too much it can cause stomach cancer. Tomatoes, V8 juice Gac juice, other lycopene sources. Catsup. Watermelon, also a lycopene source but no cooking involved.

Do medium-chain triglycerides downregulate mTOR?
I ran across some info about MCTs turning off mTOR and amping up AMPK (possibly resulting in an increase in autophagy and also lipolysis). Does anyone have any info on whether or not MCTs are potentially beneficial for prostate cancer?

RSV: what is it, and why are child cases surging in the wake of COVID?
Hospitals in the UK are seeing a rise in children suffering from severe respiratory infections. This includes an unseasonal surge in an infection called the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), in children as young as two months old. It has resulted in growing numbers of hospital admissions for bronchiolitis
