I have been taking 70 mg Aledronic since September. Recently I have developed a slight cough . I also take Omeprazole for heartburn due to a hiatus hernia. Has anyone experienced a cough and a feeling of wheezing?

Cough linked to Aledronic Acid?
Hello,It’s possible you’ve got some silent reflux going on which can cause irritation of the windpipe and the oesophagus, especially if it’s worse in the morning.
Are you taking the Alendronic Acid exactly the way as advised? This is really important to minimise the potential irritation.
Also, not everyone gets on with Omeprazole including me. I only worked for a very short time and then just made things worse.
Have you started any new medications?
Thanks for your reply. I am taking my Aledronic Acid as recommended , every Sunday morning, first thing. I do sometimes try to omit my Omeprazole on a daily basis. However, this could be the cause of my cough. I have since read that with a hiatus hernia you do need to take this ppi all the time and long term. I will look up silent reflux, so your input is much appreciated. Have a good day.
I would be suspicious that the AA has made the reflux worse - and to be honest, I would have thought that hiatus hernia could be classed as a contraindication if it was causing reflux.
I'd try stopping it to see if that helps. You won't crumble in a few weeks - and have you had a dexascan to see if you NEED AA?
