Bad cold not getting better

DogAgilityObsessed profile image

A week ago I saw a friend who was recovering from a cold. You’ve guessed it! I caught the first cold I’ve had for several years. Not only that it’s worse than a sniffle, I’ve slept for most of two days and nights. I’m assuming it’s all down to my rubbish immune system.

I’m beginning to think I’m mad to have got a puppy. Dealing with him is all I am doing and I’m not able to do everything I’d like even so.

I’ve been taking paracetamol but does anyone have other recommendations?

Lovely pup….

not a lot you can do for colds except paracetamol (as you are) keeping hydrated, and plenty of TLC…and sleep when the puppy does! (like when you have a small children and not feeling well 😉).

Summer colds are miserable…

Puppy's and dogs don't we love them, I'm sure our two run this house!!!!!! are you just having cold type symptoms - no chance of it being the t 'other thing? If you are really struggling with pain and PMR type symptoms as well then you might need need to think about a temporary increase in Pred, otherwise I guess it's just stick with the paracetamol or similar and tough it out for a few days and pup will just have to make do with the garden until normal service resumes. I do realise that is easier said than done both mentally and physically. Do you have a neighbour, close friend/relative who could help/walk/look after the pup for you for a couple of days? Hope you start to feel better soon.

Lots of good advice 👍Just to reiterate what Bcol touched on.....a PCR test might be advisable to rule out any other possibility!Adorable puppy. 🐶

Beautiful puppy!

Yes, it’s fine until you’re not fine and then they are a trial but on the good days you couldn’t be without them. Puppies get older and the difficult bit doesn’t last forever. I kept telling myself this when my two rescued dogs hit adolescence!

Um, might it be worth getting a Covid test? I’ve have heard people locally say theirs felt like an excessive summer cold.

Checking with your doctor would be a good idea because the delta variant in vaccinated people is appearing like a cold with the sniffles.

Yes, I'd get a PCR test. Covid symtoms now are like a bad cold/ flu with fever and aching. My daughter and several friends have just had it - both vaccinated and non vaccinated.Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I’ve been doing lateral flow tests but I appreciate they are not as accurate. Will get a PCR one sent.

I have a friend who already wants to put him to one of her (girl) dogs. He is gorgeous but no need for you to step in 😂😂

I have a recipe for colds from my father. Take one part Benedictine, one part whisky, one part Ribena and fill up with hot water. I have discovered you can forget the water if you put it in the microwave. You can then forget the cold. In fact you can forget everything!

Is that what he prescribed for his patients?

Highly likely. He was doing medical research!

My Mom had a recipe, too. Have a good sized hit of blackberry brandy in a snifter. If you don't feel better, have another. If you still don't feel better, have another, because by then you'll no longer care.

Sounds good to me.

Hi, I Think just looking after your puppy will get you better, just the fact he needs care makes you get up and move around.

He looks lovely.

Take care

A few years ago, 5 or 6, I was at our local hospital here in Plymouth and was there for my annual asthma check. The male nurse that was giving me the breath out and breath in test was a nice lad and he said to me that he had asthma. He looked like a marathon runner so I asked what one thing does he do or take that he would recommend to me. He immediately said Vitamin C and Zinc effervescent tablets in a pint of cold water. I started doing this every day of the years and I have to say I haven't had a knock you sideways cold ever since nor flu. I used to get both yearly.

If I get a sniffle of a cold it goes really fast.

This was all before my GCA diagnosis.

So in the mornings I make myself a nice cold Vit C and Zinc drink to have right after my coffee.

Got to be some truth in this!

Interesting I used to have this but somehow seem to have stopped. Perhaps I will restart.

I started taking Zinc and Vit C five years ago and haven’t had a cold since (touch wood), not even the ones I always got after flying.

oh poor you, summer colds are horrible and the weather doesn't help. Puppy looks so very cute, i'd be lost with out my border terrier she's very cuddly and really doesn't mind our rather shorter walks these days. Relax, tlc, fluid and puppy cuddles and hope you'll be feeling much better in a few days. Puppy stress may not have helped either, although it's nice, it's still stressful. Take it easy.

🐶🙂

PCR test all ordered. Cold now eventually moved onto the phlegm coughing and general shortage of breath stage. Puppy is settling in well.

In the US its recommended to have a covid test because the delta variant presents as a cold with excessive sneezing. I had such a cold and did have a negative PCR test.

My husband and daughter, both vaccinated, just got over breakthrough COVID infections that started as a head cold and knocked them out for a number of days. My husband's moved into his chest and he is still trying to get rid of the cough. that did not happen to my daughter, but she did get some GI symptoms as well. They are finally feeling better every day now. We had some extreme separation in our house for two weeks. I'm so thankful I didn't get it! Be sure to get tested!
