From one extreme to another my surgery

I developed oral thrush yesterday. I submitted my repeat prescription ( thrush meds not on repeat) and put a request in with a note saying. I have oral thrush and need Nystatin. Have had this many times it is not a controlled drug and can be bought over the counter. This is not an emergency but can not wait 6 weeks for an appointment. Practice manager rang last night to say Gp will ring this morning. Bingo got prescription . Gp said your good at getting around the system. I replied a lot of needless effort required.

The system sucks!! It should not be necessary to have to get around it. With the medications we take for our RA we are at very high risk of developing infections. There needs to be a better way of getting access to meds we need urgently and have had before. Perhaps we should ask if NRAS could get onto sorting this problem on our behalf?

You seem to be having a rough time lately, I hope you feel a bit better once you get the medication 🤞 how is baricitinib working again for you?

I’m back on track with the RA it’s taken 7 weeks. It’s the flippin fibro playing up at the moment so is the menopause. Just can’t win sometimes x

6 weeks for an appointment is absolutely ridiculous. The waiting times can be controlled by employing more staff, all largely within the remit of the GP....the number of patients over the amount of money received by the practice.

... and that says it all... That the GP commented you're good at getting around the system, without any apology or embarrassment that you had to.

You're right! The GP s comment also confirms that they have a system in place designed to make it difficult for the patient to get what they need. Terrible.

It's a shame the GP didn't delve further to see why you have hadto find a way to do this?!🙄

Hope the treatment works quickly. I had that once and it was very unpleasant. Lots of things tasted very strange. xx

Sorry about the thrush.....I am battling it too atm, and it is being particularly difficult to get rid of. Now on nystan.......... but just looked at the bottle, and it says prescription only medication. So just as well that you foiled the system!! Hope it clears soon.

It’s horrible. I’ve been told to take any gut healthy food so live natural yogurt/apple cider vinegar and garlic etc also good bacteria in the future apparently helps prevent and helps cure thrush .. don’t know if it works will give it a go it keeps reoccurring . Hopes yours clears up soon .
