Thank you to everyone who advised me on the side effects of taking Metformin. My husband had none of the usual ones, but it has completely taken away his appetite. I know it is good to lose weight, but surely he needs to eat a certain amount. We both find a diabetic diet mostly tasteless, and do not

I have never been obese (BMI >=30) but I have certainly been overweight (BMI>=25). There are many PCa papers associating "obesity" with poor survival. BMI is a surrogate for visceral adiposity (not always very accurate). Mortality risk with a BMI of 29 is presumably not much different than for a BMI

feel hopeless and scared.
I’m 55 (almost 56), female and was diagnosed with NAFLD with cirrhosis in 2021 ( possibly 2020 as a letter went missing). Every day since then I am so worried and constantly think about death. I am beside my self and don’t know what to do. I have lost more than 30 kilos (international as I was shocked

The Evolving Role of Diet in Prostate Cancer Risk and Progression
New paper below [1] - full text. I don't recall seeing the journal "

CKD stage 3A
Hello... waiting for PCP to confirm but based on recent labs over the last few months, it looks like I have CKD stage 3A now. although my doctors dont seem concerned. in fact at my local clinic (which is part of a large medical group/hospital) they dont even report your eGFR score if its 60 or higher

Metformin
My husband is nearly 86. He is on 12mg of Prednisolone. Now he has been diagnosed with a blood sugar level of 7.9. He has been prescribed Metformin, and is very frightened , because of the possible side effects. Can anyone tell me if it always happens please?

Are My Arteries Getting Worse?
Anyone diagnosed with atherosclerosis/heart disease, who has had a heart attack, stroke, a bypass or a stent, or indeed anyone who has had any kind of heart problem due to plaque in their arteries, will surely have asked themselves this question. We're told by the NHS and the BHF that we can't remove

Borderline Diabetes
There is someone in our church who told me today (30/03/2023) that they had a blood test and the results were that they are borderline diebetic. Apparently, this had been going on for a couple of years, so in order to help this person, does anyone have any ideas about diet? The person tells me that

Referred (by NHS) for IVF but SO doesn’t currently meet BMI requirements
Hello all, so my SO and I have been trying for around 7 years to conceive naturally. She has PCOS and has had no luck with Metformin/Clomid treatments. She was told she had to lose weight to reach a max BMI of 30. She was there or there abouts according to our scales (maybe a few pounds left to lose)

Targeting Glutamine Metabolism
New paper below [1a]. Full text: [1b]. First, a few notes. "Studies have indicated the importance of glutamine in certain tumors. For example, the inhibition of glutamine metabolism was reported to prevent growth of several tumors such as breast, liver, kidney and T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia." Wiki

weight
hi I’m 25 and have recently been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I have been trying so hard to lose weight but I can’t seem to despite working out four times a week and seeing a nutritionist. My endocrinologist wants me to take weight loss medicine but I’m very afraid of the side effects

Insulin Resistance, Parkinson's Disease, Consequences And What To Do About It
The topic of insulin resistance (IR) in PwP is not often discussed. Has your MDS or neurologist ever tested you for IR? It is estimated that two thirds of people with PD who are not diabetic, have IR and very likely are not even aware they have IR as discussed here : https://www.parkinson.org/blog/

My diabetes reading from the Dr has come back at 72, not sure what the next step is. The Dr has asked me to get in touch with the surgery. At first, I was pre-diabetic with readings of Alc 5.8, and 6.4. And put on Trulicity injecting once a week and 500mg of Metformin. Dr then increased the dose to
