I tried to find the answers by searching meds that aggrevate RLS but couldn't find an answer. Do the above cause any RL problems? I am trying to be so careful about anything, over the counter or prescription, that I take now. I will have a full blood panel (ferritin) checked for first time on Monday since I started iron supplements about 3 months ago. Since getting off ripinrole and starting gabapentin, my RL are pretty much non existent. Haven't started the Metformin yet but doctor is talking about putting me on it after blood work. Don't want to do anything to interfere with my progress.

Questions about Montelukast and Metformin
Various people have pointed the finger at Metformin as making RLS worse - including I think Shumbah , hope I haven't got that wrong? - but perhaps others have not found it a problem? Haven't seen anything about Montelukast.....

UPDATE: to be clear, I'm only pointing out a few negative posts regarding metformin. There are generally *some* negative posts about everything!
They should both be safe for RLS.
Ok ChisColumbus's post from Shumbah convinced me it is better to avoid metformin
The reason that you ned to take metformin is the same as that which is partly responsible for your rls., ie that you have high blood sugar so metformin is most likely to relieve some of the rls. High blood sugar can be related to diet. I recomend that you geet hold of a book called 'The Pioppi diet' which will tell you how to lower your blood sugar without meds.
I have insomnia and apnea in addition to RLS. I had problems with Ropinirole (Requip) making RLS worse, so I switched to Mirapex. That has worked very well. I also take 300-600 mg Gabapentin. Mirapex or Gabapentin by itself probably wouldn't have solved the problem. If is skip the gabapentin, I do not sleep through the night.
Perhaps you know this already, but just in case it is new information...
The Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation (rls.org) publishes materials on medications that can affect RSL symptoms. I looked through some of those materials and didn't see any reference to Metformin but you shouldn't rely on my understanding of drugs or that class of drugs to interpret the information given. They publish a quarterly newsletter that I find very helpful which you can access on line. In the November, 2021 issue there is a RLS Medical Bulletin Publication for Health Care Providers, which has good information.
