Graves’ disease - Carbimazole - high cholesterol
I wonder whether high cholesterol is somehow linked to Graves’ disease (diagnosed last Feb) or taking Carbimazole? My husband’s cholesterol levels have gone bad in the past year: HDL 1.4 mmol/l (1.1-2.2) LDL 3.2 mmol/l (1.0-3.0) Total 5.1 mmol/l (2.0-5.0) He is 38 and eating healthy diet and has always

Going round in Circles!
My last TSH was 23.5. Cholesterol 7.8. Finally got referred to an endocrinologist who wasn't a bit concerned at the results but said it could be supplements I was taking interfering with readings. He asked if I was talking statins for cholesterol but I said I was waiting for my thyroid to settle as that

"New" non-statin lipid lowering drug?
In Australia, we don't get much TV advertising for drugs (unlike the US where it is rampant!) - but advertising for a drug called RAYDEL ( Policosanol ) has started. I note that the Company uses the word "may" when promoting it's product (this should always be read as "may - or may not" . This study

My Introduction - elevated psa, unconfirmed prostate cancer
Hi, I'm a 57 year old with unconfirmed prostate cancer. My psa has been elevated for 14 years and recently jumped from 6 to 14 in a 6 month time frame. Since it was over 10, I thought it was time for a biopsy. My DRE was negative so I wasn't too surprised when it came back as negative. From what

High pressure
I had a viral infection at the beginning of November and went for blood tests. I had a 2-week wait before my doctors' surgery texted to invite me in to receive them with the ominous 'nothing to worry about' non-reassurance. My potassium is a tad above the upper limit (I was eating bananas while ill

Cholesterol level
Hi Guys I was just reading a post by Daisychain12 and how cream in coffee stops any sugar cravings during the day. I wanted to add that this was my default after my morning (black) tea and stops food cravings. In that post I read a reply from, TheAwfulToad, who asked for cholesterol levels. I've just

To statin, or not to statin...creatine kinase and lp/a levels normal
Hi all, I'm after a little bit of advice/guidance. I am a 39 yr old female who has recently been diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia. For those who are not aware, this is a disorder which causes high cholesterol levels due to a genetic mutation and means the body cannot remove 'bad' cholesterol

Lab Results: ACR and Lipids
Hi everyone: I got my Lab Results back. HDL: 1.04 mmol/L (Normal) LDL: 4.09 mmol/L (High) Triglycerides: 4.80 mmol/L (more than twice above normal level) They can't even calculate total cholesterol due to high triglycerides. ACR: 59.2 mg/mmol, Macroalbuminuria, making me high risk of further kidney damage

ACR/Total Cholesterol Tests
I am heading to the Lab tomorrow to have my ACR and Total Cholesterol tests, so to determine whether to refer to the nephrologist. Two weeks ago, I had my blood work and urine done: - 0.3 g/L Proteinuria - no blood leak, or casts - Serum creatinine: 83 - eGFR = 106 - electrolytes all normal. My family

Advice on blood tests very welcome please
Previous results in May were TSH 5.6 (not sure about T4 told it was fine) I felt dreadful and had all the symptoms of hypothyroid. Told policy is to recheck in 6 months as could be a one off result. 05/10/18 at GP's TSH 4.2 and T4 11.9. Vit D 69 so given Hux D3. Calcium Serum adjusted calcium concentrate
