Seeking help... I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post about my problem... I am 58 year old female mother of three grown boys... I have experienced severe pain for over three years (before that it was just painful everyday for several years) and it is getting worse. My GP has no idea what is wrong and just says it is Arthritis and advises to take Ibuprofen with Omeprazole. I also have uterus prolapse of vagina, bladder and rectum which comes and goes, I have had UTIs and acute pain in my right side. I have mild swelling in my right groin, pelvis, ankle and wrist but the real crux of my problem is the severe pain if I walk any distance even 90ft to the end of my garden.
I also have pain in both wrists but being right handed is more severe in my right wrist and if I use any gripping or turning or even picking up small things I get a very sharp and excruciating pain shoot and grip my wrist and on the inside I can see a lump which then throbs visibly.
I wake every morning in agony and always worse on my right side, I did have a lump the GP thought was a Femoral Hernia but when I did get to see the specialist a few weeks later it had shrunk and was not really noticeable. I have been sent for a scan to see if that shows anything... but the scan will only be on the groin.... I have pain and reactions all over how can this help.
I do try massage and have done the pelvic kegal exercises when my bladder is not screeching with inflammation.
Toning my 'core' does help slightly but I can be thrown back by getting constipated and /or having a tummy upset and I go all to pot again.
I have had various blood tests over the three years and all come back within the normal range??? whatever that is as we all need different levels to be optimum.
I have an underactive thyroid and take 125mcg Thyroxine daily and Macrogel powder to help ease bowel movements to stop any strain. This has eased my symptoms slightly if I do nothing all day but I cannot find the underlying cause which is my veins swelling and my nerves screeching if I do anything normal like walk my dogs or vacuum my home, washing up is even too much some days.
I also take Calceos for low Vitamin D levels diagnosed several years ago when I had major bone ache.
I had tried all sorts of pain meds including Co-codomoal, Naproxen, Aspirin (which seemed to work a little) Paracetamol and now I take Ibuprofen and the Omeprazole as advised by GP. I used to get bleeding from rectum and gums etc with Ibuprofen but the Omeprazole seems to help plus I only take one dose usually in the morning. Then co-codomol ( I then am just a zombie and cannot function but the pain seems to subside) or just paracetamol depending on pain and coping with my day.
I am struggling with getting answers from NHS and my GP because I have recently ( 10 months ago) mentioned pain in my wrists as the final straw to ask for help, after coping for many years with abdominal pain and lower back pain never fully diagnosed but told two of my vertebrae displaced and IBS but no cysts or stones etc I just carried on coping and only finally gave up after my part-time job became too much for me to keep on ... now at 58 years with menopause many symptoms were put down to the menopause.
I actually feel there is more that can be done to help me overcome this but GP and hospital not getting anywhere. Is there a way I could get diagnostic tests and assessment via a private health company and then take my results to my GP?
Is there anywhere else I can go to for help???

No amount of medication is going to help. The medication could be part of the problem. You have muscle control problems, sleep problems and a few problems which you need a GP to refer for investigation.
You have to learn to use your muscles well again. Over contracted muscles can cause all sorts of problems. You need to get enough sleep to enable fine control of muscles. You are going to need to investigate yourself to find what improves quality of life and what degrades it.
You are going to need to network with others to find who are the good local complementary practitioners in your area. You are going to need to persuade your sons to help with the cost.
The local Hindu temple should know of good yoga teachers who can teach you to move again again. Being in a group of others doing yoga will enable you to find out things you do not know which will be useful.
Worth seeing a McTimony chiropractor. They can give you a useful second opinion to take back to your GP. Look for a local T'ai Chi class and join that.
There should be Buddhists in your area who can teach you meditation and mindfulness.
At the moment you have no idea what is relevant and what is not. What I have suggested is the means to give you the tools to start investigating yourself. This will take time as there is a lot you have to learn. What you need to learn I have no idea as everyone has different skills.
Seeing a medical specialist tends to be a ten minute examination followed by a short chat about their diagnosis. What I am talking about is a 24/7 examination and investigation to learn how to reduce some of the problems you have.
John Smith has it right I believe when he says this is something that you woukd be best to examine yourself. Most GPS will treat symptom by symptom as that is what they are trained to do. You have suggested a lot of different practioners John, Heathery might be better taking it one at a time. A Pilates or Tai Chi class to start to begin the process of reminding your body how it used to move and how it should be moving.
Heather you may think that any sort of exercise will make your pain worse. It might short term but you may find that it relieves many of the feelings of tightness and pain. Do research and ask about for good teachers. There are some poor ones out there with limited knowledge and teaching skills. I've had excellent ones for both Tai Chi and Pilates. They do exist. Core exercise are very important for prolapse but they need to be done every day so that turning on your core is automatic for so many actions. Have you been taught how to do it properly ?
Bananas suggestion about fibromyalgia is also a good one. Has your GP tested to eliminate this as a cause of some of your pain ?
I hope things improve but it will be a slow process, although worth it in the end for your long term wellbeing
I agree, there are many teachers who may cause further harm. Regardless of the qualifications, they only prove enough training and study has been done.
Mindfulness, or being aware of all the good things around you.
I find things work best in parallel. Each practitioner has their strengths and weaknesses. The other problem is what is available in ones local area. So some suggestions cannot be met because of availability.
Sometimes what is good in one local area is rubbish in another area because of different practitioners.
You may be taking too many pain killers. Aspirin may cause bleeding. Please try and cut back on the meds.
There is so much you can do to help yourself. Check your posture, either sitting or standing. Whenever you have the chance tighten the sphincter muscles, draw your abdomen in. Think tall.
In yoga, you may find someone with the necessary knowledge to help you. Be aware of the crown of your head, think of a tuft of hair growing, a tuft of hair that is held gently, drawing you up, keeping shoulders relaxed, This is known as the Bindu Chakra.
Oh my dear dear child. How awful. Did you ever get a Prolia shot? I will pray for your health improves and that you find the right doctor and answers. This site does not ever let me see your responses which is sad. If you've had a Prolia shot, try to get in touch with me. My name is Elizabeth. God bless and heal you.
Also I've had steroid injections in lumbar area. They are called facet blocks in USA. You're only supposed to have three. I always got bad uti as a result of being allergic to steroids. I'm in Florida USA
