Hiya,

My two most arthritic trouble spots are both shoulders. The right shoulder had a steroid injection exactly 3 years ago and gives me only minor trouble. The left shoulder is just pure mongrel ! Pure mongrel !

Unfortunately I tend to be a restless side sleeper so that tends to do nothing for me except make the pain worse. The pain itself seems to really intrude on my sleep by about 3 am - in which case I have no alternative but to get up get mobile and scoff my old standby - CoCodomol 30/500. I also shoulder rotation exercises. The left shoulder is particular painful when reaching up and stretching into a kitchen cupboard - or any similar movement.

Thats about the best I can do I'm afraid. So, where is your arthritis ?

Lubar spine but it radiates down my legs arms hands on and off. Iv started to sleep sat up which minimises the amount of times I wake but but still around 10 to 15 times a night

Forgiveme for asking .... have you tried Osteopath treatment. I use it fairly regularly to improve mobility in my shoulders, al beit, it still doesn't give me a perfect nights sleep ... but it helps a bit.

Ask your doctor if Amitirpyline would help help. It is used in low dosage for pain but also helps with sleep.

I couldn't get on with Amitriptyline, but can tolerate Nortriptyline which I take at night along with zolpidem. Works well, occasionally have to take co-codamol at night if I wake with pain which is usually enough to get me back to sleep. The pain in my hips is partly from osteoarthritis, but my back pain is to do with spinal problems.

Not sure if tryed meds Pain relief early evening

Ans if insomnia long term

I'd recommend

Trazadone

Worth asking doctor

Specially as lack of sleep has big impact on your day and pain

I'd contact doc sooner rather than later

I’ve recently been struggling to sleep but think it’s more down to grief from a close family passing on top of chronic pain.

I’ve found using the deep heat roll-on on my back pain plus a tramadol an hour before bed helps to distract my head from the pain (the heat) and also relax me enough to fall asleep sleep

I take Pregabalin but it doesn't suit everyone.

I have very bad sleep fragmentation due to PD with multiple awakenings during the night. Neurologist prescribed me with trazadone and zolpidem and works great for me.

I use vibrational frequency music on YouTube each night.
