Almost 12 weeks on champix: Im sure its the... - No Smoking Day
Almost 12 weeks on champix
I tried taking medication to stop smoking it did not work for me. I am 2 weeks in to not smoking. I think about smoking, and also think about all the negative stuff I left behind when I stopped. The only way that works for me is cold turkey. You just need to do a mind adjustment during your time on champix, you will be fine when it is time to stop.
Yep the champix pills really helped me too. Made smoking utterly disgusting. Agree it’s just an aid and that it’s you who makes the commitment to your quit. You can do it!!
Hello Bmor, I quit last year with Chamois and have now been smoke free for 8 months. I am not denying I don't think about cigs from time to time, but the benefits for my health stop me from going back there. Are you involved in a support group? I was for the 12 week course, which helped me, and they did say to everyone, that you could stay on chamois for a further 12 weeks and reduce the dose gradually if you feel that will help you. The support group wanted to give everyone the best possible option to making sure they quit. I hope this helps and have a word with your doctor or whoever perscibes them. Good luck and well done for getting this far x
It’s as if I wrote your post. I was so frightened of stopping the Champix and became quite paranoid that I would start smoking again. I’m on day 134 and some days I really have to be positive and think of all the things I hate about cigarettes especially the smell of them. My councilor had to plead with me to bin them but I found myself breaking them in half and taking that half a day (as if that was doing anything) but in my mind it was helping me to stay off the cigs. You will be ok just think positive and thank heavens for Champix.
Hey
Just like 2217 and you, I was very scared as I came to the end of the Champix. I think it does help to tail off. I used the induction pack backwards for the last 2 weeks, but wish I’d cut them in half and done alternate days. D9nt know if it was psychological but I did crave more for that week or two as I stopped, but having a shiny badge that I did not want ripped from my chest helped. I listened to a lot of mindfulness stuff that week.
A month later and I love being completely free, no cigs, no tablets, just me!

Welcome Bmor - congratulations on making the best decision of your life to stop smoking (can you let me know your stop date for your milestone badges when you get a chance)
I stopped almost 4 years ago cold turkey so can't offer tips on the champix but we have many members here who successfully stopped with the aid of champix, some over their 1, 2 and 3 year milestones.
Champix is not the magic pill, it just takes the edge of the cravings. YOU are doing most of the work yourself to stop. As far as I am aware, you can get the prescription extended if needs be but 12 weeks is the recommended dosage.
Have faith and believe in yourself and take on board all the advice given above and see what best works for you
