5 Weeks Smoke Free - Champix

Sorry I have not posted for a while, but I am mad busy working in Iraq at the moment.

I started taking Champix 10 weeks ago and I am now 5 weeks and 1 day smoke free. I managed to unconsciously wean myself off cigarettes in the first month of taking the tablets and honestly didn't hold out much hope, as I had failed before after a 2 week course of Champix. However this time, I made a concerted effort of giving myself a quit date (my daughters 4th birthday). So far so good and although often tempted, I have managed to keep smoke free and clean in all that time. I have a sympathetic doctor who prescribed me 16 weeks of tablets! I am not sure to either continue taking 2 tablets a day for the 16 weeks, or cut down to one tablet a week in the final 7 days.

Every day is a challenge for me so far, but I am sure I could not have got this far without the aid of Champix. I still have not been able to get my head around what's the difference between cravings and withdrawal. Hopefully what ever they are, they will not last forever. Then and only then will I be able to confidently proclaim myself to the world as a non-smoker!

Oh well done Seahawk. I really worried about stopping the Champix. I used the introductory pack backwards, but I wish I’d gone slower. If I were doing it again. I would go to 1.5; then 1 then every other day over 3 weeks.

Not that I will do it again, love it now it’s over!

It’s time to repair ! Keep it up 🦋

Hey SeahawkUK , huge congrats on over 5 weeks smoke free, well done!

Yeah, it is hard to comprehend between cravings and withdrawal, the way I look at it is, cravings is a nicotine withdrawal and vary from person to person with severity and frequency. There are things we can do to help triggering a craving episode, avoid caffeine, alcohol and drink loads and loads of water throughout the day.

Below pinned post is worth a read if not already done so:

Hi Roisin,

I am glad to report that Im still smoke free. However the past week or so has been anything but easy. There are a few things going on with my work which is putting me under some strain and I have been very close on a few occasions to going back to my horrible addiction.

Thankfully I am still struggling through, but I really hope it starts getting easier as this is not good 🙄
