I have not long finished cancer treatment for cervical cancer but have been in a lot of pain with Fibro and have been taking Amitriptyline for a couple of years along with Tramadol but was told I could no longer take Tramadol because I am on Morphine Oxycontin and oxynorm so have been in a lot of pain in my arms hands and legs and a lot of numbness and pins and needles in my arms and hands so have be given these today to start on a low dose 25mg twice a day so would be grateful if anyone can tell me if they will help me as I have been in a lot of pain and I think this weather is making it worse I just hope they can help so have taken one and now going to take the second one now so would be really grateful for some information on these Thank you x

Hello Magsmarye,

I personally have found Pregabalin to be very effective in my case for nerve pain, as previously on Gabapentin that I didn't respond to very well.

Here is a link to information on Pregabalin

Hope this is of help

Best Wishes

Emma

So sorry to hear how much you've been through lately Mags, my goodness you've had a lot to contend with.

Please allow a sufficient period of time for your new meds to kick in to full effect. Any concerns or side effects that worry you, please consult your GP about this to check everything's ok and that the meds are suitable for you.

Do you take Oxycontin for Fibro pain? The reason I ask is that very strong opiods aren't normally prescribed for Fibromyalgia as they are less effective than mild opiods for our symptoms.

Please see Lindsey's post about this below -

Thank you Libertyz for your comment I take oxycontin and Oxynorm for the cancer I was taken off Tramadol and co codamol when I found out about the cancer so that is why I am taking them have finished my treatment for cervical cancer and the doctor has still got me on them It was my McMillan nurse who suggested the Pregabalin yesterday when she came to see me as I have been in so much pain inthe last 2 weeks so will see how they go as I would take anything at the minute to help with the pain but thank for letting me know Hugs to you Too xxx

I completely understand Mags, I hope your pain eases soon for you. Bless you! (((hug))) xxx

Hi there

Yes I take it and have just been increased up to 75mg twice a day. Apart from feeling a little spaced out at times and forgetful!! I find it so much better than Gabapentin. It has definitely helped with the neuropathic pain.

As libertyz says, give yourself time for the new meds to kick in. It won't happen over night. Don't forget to let us know how you are getting on.

Piggy hugs xxxxxx

thank you Piggy I felt as though it took the pain away a little yesterday when I started them then today the same so I know I will have to get the right dose and I tried the Gabapentin for a couple of days but heard so many people talking about how bad it made you feel and just never took it again Anyway thanks to everyone for the comments and its nice to know that anyone on this group understands how much pain you are going through as people will say you looking ok to me Lol but we know the pain that this illness can cause us and right now I think this is the worse I have been for a long time so fingers crossed and will let you know how I,m doing with them Hugs to you Too xxxx

I was prescribed it 6 weeks ago, .2 x 75mg a day. Although I am still in pain and still tired, I feel so much better in myself. Got doctors later so do mot know if he ups it a bit to manage the pain, although I have heard it takes up to 3 months to properly work.

Thanks Jom glad to hear its helping you a bit I was told that it would take time to work and find the right dose I have been very tired as well but find the pain is worse when I go to bed even if its just for a hour I wake up in so much pain at the minute it seems to be down all of my left side first time this has happened from my shoulder to my foot but hope you get the right dose also all we need is to have even a few days pain free x

I've been on it for about 2 weeks now and I'm sleeping much much better. I'm still in a lot of pain though. I had a few side effects to deal with to begin with - mostly dizzyness and a drunk type feeling. It's passed though so if you get anything similar try and stick with it and see if it passes too.

Hope you feel better soon and I hope you get the all clear on the cancer xx
