I have been having huge problems with my breathing and my Dr put it down to my astma( spelt wrong) but I said it was not as I was losing my breath when shaving/brushing my teeth getting off the sofa to make a cuppa. I was through trial and torture and very reluctant sent to have a chest stress echo and they found I had a problem with my heart. Yesterday I underwent an Angiogram where they put a wire into your veins and put liquid around your heart. I arrived at 08:00 and as a result of emergencies I was not seen until 1:15pm whereby they informed me that 4 of the blood vessels were damaged and I would have to undergo bypass heart surgery
I think that will all the other medical problems that I have to contend with this was the straw that broke the camels back and I sobbed like a baby and the nurses were fantastic and it explains my symptoms that my Dr was quick to dismiss. I felt a lot better after my cry and apologised to the nurses who told me "It is good and healthy to have a good cry" As an aside a lady was admitted to the ward I was in having suffered a heart attack and they had managed to stabilise her but all she was bothered about was the fact that the nurses would not allow here to have a cigarette I could not believe what I was hearing and had to grit my teeth from saying something but managed to keep my big mouth shut.
Just waiting now for my appointment for the surgery and I am sh***ing myself.
Have a great day and keep cool !

Oh my goodness!!! I'm so glad you were listened to and that you got the diagnosis you needed. But wow! It's no wonder you are sh**ting yourself - heart surgery sounds rather scary!! But I'm sure it will be fine, you are in good hands. Doctors are amazing these days when it comes to surgery, they create miracles. I'm sure you'll be OK. Take care of yourself today x
I'm glad to hear you didn't take what your gp said because you know your body and the way it feels versus the way it should feel.I wish you the very best in your upcoming surgery.Take care . Peck.🐤
I am so sorry t hear this. I am just grateful they have found something with symptoms as bad as you had them, it is much better to get them treated. At least you should be a lot better afterwards.
I would be feeling the same as you, but only this week, someone I know had a heart pacemaker AND defibrillator fitted. Guess what? It was done as an outpatient and they are already much better. Quite incredible really.
I know the operation must seem very frightening, but talk to the staff, you might be suprised at how common the operation is and also at how well people do after it. You should feel much better and I am so glad they found it.
Good luck and know that I and MANY others on here are wishing you well!
I am so grateful you pushed forward and were able to find out what was wrong. I agree with everyone's comments thus far on the surgery, understandable the terror, sending massive positive energy your way (hope that doesn't sound to hippie I am from the west coast in the U.S lol)
I am just so thankful you are there able to get the surgery, I do think your in good hands and it will go smoothly. Oh and if that lady is still there when you are all finished you should ask the nurse to wheel you past her room real slow holding a cigarette, looking like your having the time of your life smoking it, then double back and make one more pass for good measure.
I mean this is for your health. Holding in feelings isn't good plus a good laugh is said to do wonders for the healing process. What do you think? To much , to far?
Hey thanks for your uplifting reply It made me fell a tad better as for the lady with the cigarette I think I should change to that to a slap round her silly head. Hope you are all okay that side of the water, what with all the horrendous things you lot have going on at the moment? We follow your news here with great interest and pray for a solution real soon.
Stay safe and "Hugs and stuff" from London Regards Ian
Really! That makes sense though, we still see ourselves as your awkward cousin that comes to the family reunions, that has no manners and your constantly having to help us and apologize to everyone else for our lack of decorum, lol
Though seriously I am deeply grateful for your regards. It just seems unreal or maybe surreal is a better word for everything right now. Thank you again. I'm just praying that somehow, someway we can find and resolve this soon..........
So sorry to hear this Heliboy911 , and wish you well for your surgery, and a speedy recovery.
As said in above posts, Cardiac Surgery these days is very advanced, and the stay in hospital afterwards very short. That doesn't mean though that when you get home you can immediately get back to doing all the things you used to be able to do right away. You have to look after yourself and carry out what instructions you've been given, and don't expect too much too soon. If you take things steady, you will be given a new lease of life with your heart pumping blood effectively through your body, which it hasn't been able to do for a long time.
So catch your breath, and remember that you probably are in shock, and will take time to get used to your diagnosis.
I am so genuinely sorry to read this my friend and I sincerely hope that your surgery goes well for you. It is so fortunate that you stuck to your guns to get this result. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself.
My husband had triple bypass on 14 April. He is 82. It is hard at the time .He is now getting over it and will probably out live me . He was in The Alfred ,in Melbourne, one of the finest hospitals in the the world. They have got this heart surgery off to a fine art, every day occurrance. The thing to be wary of is infections after. Good luck to you and try not to worry too much
