Heart surgery

Having had Open Heart surgery through Covid for Mitral Valve Regurg/ prolapse.I had Mitral Valve Repair with my own tissue which has unfortunately failed 5 years on. I am now facing a second Open Heart Surgery to have a metal valve. Has anyone else had to cope with this?

How much pre op preparation and support is given prior to surgery ie diet, alcohol. exercise? He is not in a good place atm and is terrified of open heart surgery and his drinking has escalated.

hello, I had open heart surgery two years ago and have recently been getting dull pain in my chest and strong palpitations, along with very strong pulsations and twitches in my blood vessels. This is particularly noticeable in my wrist, neck and legs. Has anyone ever experienced this?

only after mentioning this on Facebook page " heart valve surgery support group " the comments are no one can believe i have only been checked just once and they all have an annual ECG check ...however none of them reside in the UK ....Germany ..USA .. Canada ..

5 weeks in following open heart surgery and a subsequent pacemaker fitting the 3 puncture wounds in my stomach are still causing me problems. My other wounds seem to be healing nicely but am still having to wear dressings on the 3 puncture wounds. They are still weeping and causing problems.

I can’t bear the thought of open heart surgery and wondered how they decide if you are suitable for TAVI How has anyone’s experience of this procedure been ? Thanks

In October this year he had open heart surgery to replace the valve (he turned 38 years old in December) His recovery went really well but I am concerned about his mental health. I know that depression after surgery is common but he seems very low and on edge emotionally.

Hi all After undergoing all manner of tests, ECG, Echo, MRI, my consultant has finally decided on a course of action, and I've just found out that to correct my ASD and Bilateral SVC I'm going to have to have open heart surgery.

Has anyone here had open heart surgery while still being treated with ADT? Was anyone told to go off of it before surgery? We of course will follow up with his MO, and possibly a second opinion MO consult too. Thanks

I’m 6 months today since my heart bypass and after feeling super positive and happy I was still here ,I now seem to have spiraled into feeling really down and questioning every decision I have made in life.

I am due to have urgent open heart surgery for a dilated aorta. I've been told I can choose where I have this done within the NHS and also choose the surgeon. This is an enquiry to ask if others have had this operation and what their experience has been.

I have seen him thru heart attack, open heart surgery, DVT deep vein thrombosis and now a stroke. I will always be here as his wife, his friend, share a home/room and love with him but I have to learn to live with the new relationship.
