Fibre recommendations post lap

Hello everyone, I’m on day 3 post lap. The first day was fine when keeping up with painkillers, but yesterday I started to feel unwell. I was prescribed laxatives (Lactulose) to take twice a day but it’s made me feel really unwell, stomach cramps, nausea, sickness etc but not actually helping with the constipation. Can anyone recommend an alternative stool softener or way to get lots of fibre in naturally? Thanks in advance x

Laxido is a gentle laxative. I swear by it and used it after my hysterectomy x

Hi, I had the same issue, so eventually used a tea with senna - or fruit and fibre cubes you can buy from the pharmacy

I had the same issue! The main thing that helped was trying to eat chopped up dried prunes and dates. I absolutely hate them but even just having a couple a day made a big difference

Thank you 🙏 prunes are a good shout! I’ll dig them out of my cupboard. Good to know I’m not the only one who’s had this issue with the laxatives!

Sorry, you are feeling unwell. The first week(s) post op can be a struggle as you begin to recover. I found eating a variety of fruits (fruit salad) after meals very helpful. Seeds and nuts in yoghurt (with live cultures) are good too. Drinking lots of water might not be to your taste as I found, I substituted with herbal teas [peppermint, green tea, camomile, etc]. I drank lots of warm water, I found it nicer 😄 You can add slices of cucumber, lemon, ginger to your water to enhance the taste.

Gentle walks around the house or around the block for some fresh air as you can manage.

I was prescribed laxido too, I used them when needed.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Take care, the best is yet to come 🙏🏽

Thank you that’s so kind! It’s my first lap and I think I underestimated the recovery. Those are great tips, I’ve been having warm lemon water, peppermint tea and kefir with nuts and fruit which I think is helping. I like the idea of cucumber and ginger in water though, I’ll try those next for variety 😊

2 kiwi fruit everyday for a week. Hydration. Chia seeds in porridge, if you like it. Move around. Massage your stomach in a clockwise direction.

It will likely be fine and stress will make it worse. So reduce stress by the headspace or calm apps. You Tube Yoga Nindra (not moving but laid down on your back) if you don’t have those or want to get them x

Thank you for your advice, kiwis are a good idea, I’ll pick some up. I’ve been having porridge with chia seeds as it’s my normal breakfast, and I think that’s helped a bit. I’ll look up Yoga Nidra too 😊 x

A supplement by the brand Solgar Magnesium Citrate. Or ask the pharmacist for a stool softener x
