Hello ladies. I am 3 days post my surgery in which they took out my left ovary and excised all the endo they coud find. Now i am not in a lot of pain but i cannot poo, it is killing me. It is already the fourth day i haven't empty my bowels and i feel i need to go but when i am there i cannot push it out. i took laxatives, i drank lactulose, prune juice, i ate prunes as well and all the food i had was full.of fibre. my tummy is so swollen, i cannot sit properly because i feel i need to poo. Please any advice? i am so scared, it has been ages since i had problems with constipation.Thank you.

it took me about 4 days before I was able to go to the toilet. If you still haven’t gone by end of day 4 I would go back to see someone as this can be very dangerous. We aren’t meant to be constipated. You maybe blocked so worthwhile going to see a doctor. Good luck! Hope you manage to go soon. But definitely contact either 111 or go see someone x

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I have managed to go this evening and it was such a relief! Also in the end I had the opposite result due to taking too many laxatives and suplements.

It would be a good idea to check you are not too blocked up and may need some mild laxatives. This was my experience after my hysterectomy but needed a hospital stay as I have previously had bowel surgery.

I was the same, I think it was four or five days. I ended up ringing my GP and got a telephone appointment, but by the time they rang me back I’d managed to go! I think it might have been psychological because I knew I was getting help soon and I think it relaxed me enough to go…

yep this happened to me too, and I also never normally get constipated. It's the effects of the anaesthesia & painkillers. I think I was finally able to go on day 4, thanks to lactulose, and it took about 12 days in total before I was properly back to normal. I agree with Kieraface, do get help from GP/111 today, take care x

I had that after hysterectomy ! It’s awful! The gentlest and best thing I took after all the harsh laxatives, was some fruit based things from Holland and Barrett . And stopped taking the codeine and weaned off the painkillers coz they can make it worse. TheHolland and Barrett tings are called ‘Fruits and fibres’ by Ortis . Really work and gently . Worth keeping in if it happens again .
