Upper abdominal pain

Hi everyone,

I’m currently suffering with severe upper abdominal pain. It’s making me feel so so nauseous that even just walking to the kitchen makes me feel like I need to throw up. I’m currently on day 3 of my period.

Does anyone else suffer with this and have any good tips to ease it? I’ve got a tens machine on atm, hot water bottle and have been taking painkiller but having no luck at all.

I had a laparoscopy in April last year where they found severe dense adhesions around my bowel and caecum. I feel like the pain was getting better but recently it’s come back with a vengeance. When I spoke to my surgeon, he said he couldn’t see any significant signs of endo in my laparoscopy but surely the adhesions have been caused by something?

I’m currently waiting for a re-referral to a gynaecologist but this isn’t until July. Currently feeling so helpless and low 😢

I get this too! I think a lot of people with endo often have gut issues too (which I think is the case for me regarding the upper abdominal pain/bloating).

Was the person who did your laparoscopy an endo specialist?

Sorry that you experience this too!

No, they weren’t a specialist, just a general gynaecologist! Really feel like I need to request to speak to a specialist at this point.

100%, I understand it isn’t always an option for everyone but unfortunately gynaecologists that don’t specialise in endometriosis can miss it completely!

Thank you, when I get my appointment in July, I’ll explain everything and then ask to speak to a specialist x

I agree with the previous comment. Upper abdominal pain can be trapped air. Reduce sugars and try to walk/not sit for long periods. You might try digestive teas or supplements that contain Fennel and anice (carminative seeds). Hope it helps!

Thank you! :)

Ps trapped air can be caused by adesions that make your bowel move less. So yes, it is endo related, but I'd say indirectly

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re in such a lot of pain. I get recurring /chronic gastritis (inflamed stomach lining) due to taking ibruprofen and mefenamic acid (NSAIDs) for years. It sounds exactly like this. It’s upper abdominal pain, nausea, bloating. No GP ever told me NSAIDs can cause this if you take them a lot and that it’s really important to take with food with them and also ask for omeprazole or similar to help with stomach acid. I now can’t take them at all and it’s left my stomach in a bad state. This is only my experience and I’m not a doctor! But I would try lots of water and very plain food for a few days. Also, see your gp and describe symptoms and see if they think omeprazole etc might help. Good luck x

Well this could be unrelated. It could be like me a form of reflux due to gluten or Lactose, intolerances or general unable to digest all the food types, eat little more often. The problem with a sore stomach its very understanding and this issue could have been smoldering for mths before the symptoms arrived.

Equally it could be your bile duct or gallbladder inflammation or a small stone. Or a blockage in the lower stomach

Firstly cut the gluten, Lactose for a few days get some Indigestion Iiquid, sleep with plenty of pillows so more upright. I take a propump inhibitor since a issue taking steriod related to Endo. Go to the doctors if still a issue.

If the vomit/pain gets worse or blood seen go to Hostipal.

I’ve been dairy free for 10 years and recently started gluten free so just hoping that it helps! Thank you :)

Sounds like stomach upper bowel inflammation, reflux. But as I say it could be unrelated. Try the indigestion liquid, extra pillows. Small meal, Then doctor.

Wishes you better.

you can go to the Gp and ask for another pain solution and anti nausea meds. Also to expedite your case with Gyne. Say “the current situation is really impacting my quality of life. I cannot go on living like this. Can you please help me?”

You have to think of how debilitating this is and how it affects your daily life. Relationships, work, finances.

You can always see another GP for a second opinion. Knowing a GP that has empathy for your situation is important. If you don’t like what they say or how they make you feel. Just see another Gp.

Anything with ginger can help with nausea. Ginger beer? Ginger seeets? Ginger and lemon with hot water and honey?

Hope that helps? My inbox is open. Shout if you need support - all the best xxx
