Hi, I had my laparoscopy on Thursday to remove recto-vaginal and pod endo. Am in a lot of pain, feel incredibly bloated and have had trapped air in my shoulders and chest. It’s prevented me from being able to take deep breaths which I’ve really wanted to do because I’ve felt ill. The pain in my shoulders and chest has lifted but I still can’t take a deep breath and am running out of breath when talking. Is this normal or a sign of a problem?
Hi BeTheSunshine, I had trapped gas for a week and had pains in the same place. Keep trying to move around - gently, drink peppermint tea, make sure you sit up when eating and you can also take buscapan, I was kept in hospital for 4 days after my surgery and that's what I was given during my stay and to come home with. Hopefully it won't last to long, for me it was worse than the summer pain and this was my second operation and I did have anything like this first time around.
If you don't like peppermint tea you can get capsules.
Hi I hope you feel better soon , when i had my laparoscopy the trapped gas was the worst , I thought I had something wrong with my chest when I awoke It felt tight & in pain for a good few days following , I found this to be the main discomfort of the whole procedure/recovery . Hopefully this will pass for you in the next few days x
I found peppermint tea helped and lemonade. I also found while I was in bed doing very slow heal slides (slide one heal along the bed to your bum and back down, repeat with the other and do a few times) Got things inside moving for me as I was not able to get out of bed much.
When I got out to the toilet I did very slow and gentle rocking of my hips side to side and leant a little while on a window sill sometimes when doing this.
A nice back rub (effectively like burping a baby but without the patting) can be nice.
I was also told to sit on the edge of the bed/ a chair and take 5 deep breaths every hour as when in recovery/less active/lying down you don't use the full capacity of your lungs. This sometimes triggered a massive burp if I drank some lemonade before doing it (it felt so good) 😂
