been told that the desogestrel should help my period related issues… i bleed tons and its painful… apparently if i switch from my combined pill to the mini pill it may help.

has anyone had any experiences with desogestrel and how did you find it? I am scared of taking it. The combined pill doesnt help so i dont know how the mini pill will but i dont know…

Im on a 17 week waiting list for a gynae…

hi, I started this back in December. I had some intense pain and random bleeding to begin with but I’m *touch wood* doing well on it now x

I have just been put on it at my first gynea appointment yesterday. This is on top of the marina coil. I asked the dr multiple times if it will help the pain as that is the thing I struggle with most. I have had awful heavy periods for years and years so have learnt to manage them but the pain is now constant.

He assured me it would. I got the impression he felt it was some kind of magic pill that would fix all. I hope he is right!!

I hope it works for you

Hi, two years ago I was prescribed Desogestrel for the same reasons, heavy periods and suspected endometriosis. It took few months for my body to get used to it, but it's been a game changer for me. I went from extremely painful/long periods and bleeding heavily for 4-5 days, to now only light bleeds for a couple of days, then just spotting and almost no pain. Also, my periods have become less frequent. However, I'm not entirely sure if it's down to Desogestrel or perimenopause symptoms. Since I started taking it I am also sleeping much better which is a bonus.

hi

I was put on the desogestrel whilst I was on the depo injection because I was still bleeding heavily, unfortunately for me that pill didn’t work either as I still had the monthly heavy bleeding whilst taking both so they’ve stopped me taking it and put me back on zoladex for the next six months. Everybody is different and unfortunately I personally haven’t found anything that works.

Hope you get the answers you’re looking for and it helps you as this sucks 💛💛

I am on this for my recently discovered stage 4 endo. I too also had heavy bleeding with a lot of pain. One pill didn't stop my period but it did stop the pain, but I now take two as they wanted my periods to stop completely. It took about 6-12 months to settle completely but I now live period free and largely symptom free :)

Hi, I have been on it for nine years, as I also have PCOS. I came off it it Feb due to lack of period the entire time I've been taking it. But I will say that the majority of my PCOS pain went as soon as I started it. It also helped with endo at times, although a nurse at my GPs office told me to take two a day when having a pain flare up which I don't recommend doing. The only side effect I had was going quite a bit of weight in a short amount of time, but I've had no other issues with it in the nine years I've been taking it. Hope this helps you some.

I'm on desogestrel for suspected endo. It took about four months to settle down for me, and I almost gave up. The first few months I had loads of random bleeding and my mood was really low. But I'm so glad I stuck with it now. It has stopped my period completely, so I don't get the really bad pain anymore. I still get other pain/symptoms, but the pill does help. It's different for everyone though, so you just have to give it a go. I would say you need to be willing to give it up to six months to settle down and see whether it works for you though.

Hope it does work for you!

Hey, I took this for years and after a period of random bleeding, maybe 6 months, I then had no periods for years. My friend had a similar experience so it’s potentially worth sticking with the random bleeding/spotting if that’s the way it goes for you too.

It has stopped my periods, the pain, the bent double as pain shoots through me, the migraines. The hospital did tell me to take two when the bleeding was still happening everyday.

I’m sorry to hear you are suffering at the moment. I have been on desogestrel for Endo for five years now and it has helped immensely together with the mirena coil. I thoroughly recommend it. Best wishes x
