Quick pre-MRI constipation question!!!

OK so finally getting an MRI this week to check for adeno/endo, should get a date for my lap after šŸ¤ž, my question is about preparing for the MRI...I take codeine for pelvic pain which makes me constipated, they say don't eat for 4 hours before mri and they may need to give you meds to still the bowel but no info about if bowel needs to be empty????

Feel silly asking this but basically I am worried as i don't want a poo in my bowel to ruin chances of a good scan!

Anyone know the answer?!

Update - MRI went well, they got clear pics even without Buscopan šŸ‘ Now just a wait for results.

hello I have had numerous MRI scans and the only thing I am told is that they will give me buscopan via a canula which relaxes the bowel etc. I had the scans for adenomyosis too šŸ„¹you only need empty bowels for a colonoscopy šŸ’›

I didn't have to prepare anything for the mri and it didn't affect the scan results, they did record that I had a poo in me in my notes though šŸ«£

I didnā€™t have to do anything before the MRI and it didnā€™t affect the results, they were still able to diagnose endo. Good luck

I didnā€™t have to empty the bowel or anything . You donā€™t need to do anything other than four hours before not to eat and only sips of water

they will also put buscapan through a cannula to still the bowel and two hours after your bowel will function also be aware itā€™s very very noisy and the headphones with the music for me didnā€™t drown out the noise at all . They will tell you what to do and for that exam it takes about an hour and you have to stay very still but Thwy will tell you how long to hold breath and then breath out. Good luck
