I am in such a mess. I went for a hysterectomy on 5th September due to large fibroids and flooding. When they got in they found endometriosis scar lesions have attached my cervix to my bowel and left ovary. They didn't touch it and I was offered Zoladex instead which I declined as the side effects put me off. Plus I was just coming round from the anaesthetic and my head was in bits. My GP and doctor decided to put me on provera progeston 5mg and estrogen gel. I take both daily. My understanding is that this is to stop the bleeding. I'm having my first period on this medication and it's very very bad. I'm on day 13 today and I'm constantly hemorrhaging and losing a lot of tissue (ladies if you know you know). I thought I was going to have to go to A&E today as nothing would stop it. I'm wearing period Knickers with 2 pads and a tampon and changing every 20 to 30 mins. I had a blood test on Thursday. I just got my next appointment with the surgeon - June 2024!! I don't know what to do. I have to go back to work after half term. I think I'm going to have to try zoladex. I'd like to hear from anyone taking zoladex and it's worked. Of from anyone taking continual provera; does it start to work. Thanks everyone.

Call your gynae and tell him/her what is going on. Go through the secretary and say it's an emergency. The progesterone only pill sometimes causes lots of bleeding and they can increase the dose which stops it but you need to get through to your consultant right away. He/she is the person who did the op and gave out the meds and if something is wrong he/she needs to be the person to fix it. You are allowed to contact a consultant you have had treatment with directly and won't need a referral.
I was given Zoladex for a year whilst I waited for a hysterectomy. I wasn't aware at that time that I had extensive endometriosis. I was unsure about it because of the side effects but I had to try something, I was in so much pain and emotional distress. I will say that the Zoladex had a positive impact. Whilst it did not take everything away, the heavy periods stopped and it allowed me to go about my life with more ease. You aren't meant to be on it for longer than around 6 months but I had it for a year, to get me to the op date. Please ask to be put in a list for a cancellation appointment. I feel like I had to push and manage every step of my diagnosis otherwise I would still be waiting. I have had symptoms for over 15 years and nothing happened until I was too desperate to keep quiet anymore and could no longer be pacified with medical professionals telling me I 'just had bad periods. The zoladex might not work for everyone but it got me through a difficult year.
I had a laparoscopy last month but they didn't remove the endo and they have told me to take 5mg Provera daily. Been taking them 30 days - I had my normal period and 10 days later I have started bleeding again. My periods were regular before, so I'm super annoyed. I am hoping things sort themselves out in the next month or so.
Zoladex was amazing for me, pain and periods literally disappeared for 6 months. I did take tibolone alongside it to help with side effects (hot flushes and dry skin) x
