I went to Spire for a consultation just before Christmas and met with a gynocologist who after going through many many questions suggested an ultrasound as he expected I had Endometriosis and that due to the pain getting worse around my period, it was very unlikely that it was IBS because I had no bowel trouble either. He prescribed Provera tablets to stop the cycle and said that it would stop any bleeding and my pain. He arranged for me to see him today for an ultrasound on the nhs and to see if they could find out where my pain was coming from. My provera tablets stopped my bleeding/cycle but didn't stop the pain unfortunately.
After carrying out a regular ultrasound (and deciding against a transvaginal(?) Ultrasound), he could not find anything endometriosis related but noted that ultrasounds often don't pick up on that. He has put me on a laparoscopy waiting list to see if there is anything internal that is causing my pain however then suggested that it could be more likely to be IBS so gave me a prescription for Fybrogel and Peppermint Oil tabs.
I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or similar and whether they did continue with the IBS treatment and if it helped and whether the Lap eventually confirmed their diagnosis?
Any help would be great, thanks

I was diagnosed with IBS for many years and tried many IBS medications but nothing really worked. I had an ultrasound and nothing was found but it was discovered I had endometriosis during a lap surgery. Ive heard quite a few people saying similar scenario so if the surgery is offered and you want to go forward with it you may find out then whether you have it or not. Bear in mind though just because endometriosis isnt visible during surgery does not mean you definitely dont have it as my surgeons said around about 15% isnt visible during surgery. Best wishes.
For the record though I had seen a gastroenterologist consultant just weeks before being diagnosed who said I definitely only had IBS as I had "textbook" symptoms so that shows how much endometriosis can appear to be IBS so be pushy and don't let them brush you off.
I'm definitely going to continue pushing for a diagnosis other than IBS as the only linked symptom is my very bad pain but as this pain gets worse at different parts of my cycle, I don't believe it's IBS related. Thank you again
I’ve been told I have IBS and am now having every test and treatment under the sun done, I’m beyond fed up but if I go through it and nothing changes I can tell them where to stick their IBS diagnosis and hopefully stop being dismissed by doctors 😫😫😫
