My Health Parameters before I started my LCHF journey

In continuation to my previous post , I wanted to share my health parameters before I resorted to LCHF...... I was just doing fine ...my fasting was 94, PP was 116, HBA1c was 6.1....my lipid profile was much better as you can see from my attached report .

What was I eating then ? This report if you see clearly it is Dec 2017, much before I joined this forum ! ( I joined this forum in 2018 as you can see from my profile page)

I did not even know about LCHF at that time ! I was just following the doctors/ Dieticians advice ! It was more of a Balanced diet ...with vegetables , fruits and whole grains , legumes, nuts and limited dairy products ...carefully crafted by my dietician....and especially for me .....individualised....it was by none other than Apollo hospital Nutritionist.

So , with a strict LCHF diet followed after advice from people in the forum , my HBA1c level climbed from 6.1 to 7.1 and my lipid profile went up ( please refer my previous post with regards to this report ) and my medicine dosage increased 2 times and added more varities of medicines for heart and kidney , but the increased double dosage did not help much ....HBA1c came down a little from 7.1 to 6.9........ I was terrified ..... though I don't intend to blame anyone ...because finally decision was mine to jump in to the LCHF diet!

And it took me 3 years to reverse my condition. I realised I had increased my IR in stead of decreasing with LCHF as against views of many veterans that LCHF reverses IR.........any small carb portion I ate, it would spike my blood glucose.... I struggled ....I learned the hard way..Today I am at HBA1c 5.8 consistently for the last 6 months! My Lipid Profile, my kidney and liver are doing fine.....Thank God ...πŸ™

But please be aware .....for many people , it could be an irreversible event /damage to your health.

Well, I may be lucky enough with all the resources that I had at my disposal ..had lot of study material , I did the nutrition course and had access to all research papers in the world on diabetes ....and I was constantly in touch with my doctor all through out, so i was able to figure out what is best suitable for my body structure ! Even today, I am very much in touch with my good old Apollo doctor with my current diet plan, life style....

But if you don't have much confidence in your nutrition subject, please do follow your doctors advice ....you will not go wrong.....and you may also consider joining a residential program where you need to stay there for 3 -4 weeks under guidance from qualified doctors/ nutritionist and learn your diet and lifestyle tailor made for you......you will gain ...not lose anything. But following some dietary advice blindly after listening to people around you may cost your health and life .

Please don't depend upon advice from people around you...there are no nutrition expert nor medical expert in the forum as we people think when we join the forum .....it is a forum where diabetic members are supposed to learn & share their experience on diet & life style .....post their results . unfortunately members don't disclose their credentials/ diabetic profile ...they don't post their results.....but they would not hesitate to persuade you to adopt to a specific diet. How can others decide what is right for you without knowing your health status ? Next time if someone advises you to change your dietary pattern , you should request him his profile and about the benefits he got in terms of Lab report and then if you are convinced about the benefits and you find similarity between his health conditions and yours, then you may please get it vetted by your doctor or dietician before you implement any dietary changes. If some members don't provide you their credentials/ their diabetic status or tell you their results and if you feel suspicious about some member, you have every right to ignore their message and report it to HU.

Please remember, it is your Health and no one would come to your rescue if you develop a complication or your conditions get worsened.

The fact remains is that everybody is different and different people may react differently to different diet. Asians and western countries have different Diabetic characteristics..and their response would be different..........obese vs underweght may behave differently......excess insulin vs insulin deficiency may behave differently......Type 1 vs Type 2 would behave differently to the same diet....type 2 with oral medication vs type 2 with insulin injection may behave differently......there may be some member with undiagnosed Type 1.5 or LADA... They would behave differently....

And there may be some non-diabetic members in the forum who would advise/persuade you to follow a diet which suits them ....

So there are so many variables in diabetes management ! Please be aware of your health conditions and the health conditions of the person trying to persuade/ advise you.....always consult your doctor before you implement any change in your diet /medication , monitor your health parameters in a lab every quarter ....half yearly , annually and listen to your blood report ...it will never tell you a lie ...and follow your doctors advice ...you will do just fine ...

Now, I have shared my 3 reports with you.. How my body reacted to 3 different types of food for your reference

1. Balanced diet as recommended by my doctor before I jumped into LCHF

2. My LCHF journey

3. Whole plant food

1 & 3 are close to each other as far as my diet is concerned

Stay Safe , Stay Healthy !πŸ™

well said namaha, and thanks a lot for all your posts and educating everyone selflessly. Yes, diabetes is just not about controlling blood sugar, but it is about how we maintain the overall health by keeping all other parameters right by making permanent lifestyle changes

Thanks Soni, Ramaana , Vyaas & many others for the response πŸ™

I see there are many messages/ notifications in my mail box.....I am sorry for I can not respond to all...I am travelling- going for long Holidays-pre-planned .....earlier ...postponed due to covid 2 times ...now would be travelling under Air bubble act to a foreign country ....so may not be able to respond ...πŸ™

However, I have given enough information by now for the last 6 months..... several posts with relevant links/ scientific studies / research papers. I have not said anything on my own ...nor these are my discoveries...based upon the studies which I conducted for almost a year ... Which prompted me to carry out some trial to see if I could achieve some results and to my utmost pleasure, I could see benefits and I thought to share among members for information and education purpose .. ! And I was happy to see quite a few in the forum already practising similar lifestyle and diet like me much ahead of me achieving similar results ! If I have been following since last 1 year , others like you are already doing it since decade...πŸ™

For all, please do refer to my posts if someone wants some clarification, which are comprehensively covered ! I need not have to prove what I say....at least I have maintained transparancy ... attached my bood sugar lab report ... .which I hardly see any member in the forum doing it ... It is up to you whether you believe it or just ignore it....

Now coming to blood sugar control raised rightly by Soni and I could see one message on this too...

Someone with diabetes says that he has been able to control his blood sugar within HBA1C 5.4 to 5.7 with the help of Meat , Egg, Cheese , Nuts for the last two years....and Metformin. Has he been able to reverse diabetes and what is the long term consequences of such a Diet ?

Unfortunately, public in general and even most of our learned members think that Diabetes is all about Blood sugar control. and we are happy if we are able to do it by some diet ...and in some cases with limited medicines like metformin ...

So, here the question is- Has he been able to reverse diabetes...?

Will try to answer this question to the best of my understanding on the subject ....The answer could be both Yes & No.

Blood sugar is only one symptom of diabetes, which he has achieved by dietary control.....But has he been able to reverse the IR- Insulin resistance ?

How to measure IR ?

There is a Gold standard Popular , universally accepted by all medico, scientists , nutritionist, hospitals, clinics , Researchers .....the test is known as GTT ( Glucose Tolerance Test ) ....you need to go to a Pathological lab and get it tested once for all. They will check your fasting blood glucose and then give you 50 GM's of glucose solution and test your Blood Sugar spike ..after one and half hour / 2 hours ....

If your readings are within normal range, then yes- you have reversed your diabetes ....no worry....carry on with your diet ....whatever food you are taking does not matter , please do continue ......... Your body has accepted the food you are taking ...congratulations to you...carry on and keep checking your IR once a year at least !. πŸ‘

But if your blood sugar spikes ..... and your blood sugar readings are abnormal......then your IR remains in your body and you have not reversed your diabetes . .....you carry all the associated risks of diabetes namely , Neuropathy, Retinopathy, Nephropathy, Heart failure, kidney failure ... schizophrenia, dementia , Parkinson's...these are all well known risks...there could be few more Associated risks though, these could unfortunately hit you any time in future if you continue with IR ... ..I had made an elaborate post on IR ....you may please refer. So you need to work towards reducing your IR along with blood sugar control.. IR has also few more features as mentioned in my IR post could be one or more from the following ; obesity, BP, HsCRP, improper lipid profile, Sleeplessness...etc etc

GTT test can be done at home safely by eating some high GI fruits too....and with the help of a gluco-meter....even if you don't eat fruits , for one time test , you can always do that ... or else you go to a lab and please do take the GTT test at Lab which is considered ideal ! πŸ™

Wish you all the best.....Stay Safe , stay Healthy.

What is the policy in India on foreign travel?

Are all countries allowed?

Vaccine passport, testing before and after trip?

In UK there is red, amber and green list countries for travel, changing on daily basis!!!
