Squirrels, shelob, the helicopter crashed again and my short run wasn't as short as I thought, phone survived it's first outing.

Ok so today was my first run since last Saturday almost a week ago and I thought well I'll take the short route.

I had thought about going yesterday evening, but I am glad I just opted for a short dog walk instead...... Melted, I don't do heat.

I woke up late and so it was a bit of a shock that even at just gone 7 it was already very warm but onwards march, or should that be run we must. Plus you know new running belt to test and not so dumb phones initiation and I'd spent time last night making up a playlist and transferring it to my phone and getting everything working.

First off the running belt. It doesn't sit on my hips like I want and slipped up to around my waist, but having said that it was still comfortable and I didn't notice it was there and it was nicely hidden under my top, also phone stayed dry so hurrah, just hope it doesn't get too humid under there but I think it should all be fine.

So warm up walk with battle dog was uneventful, he didn't even drag me to chase the squirrel that raced across the bridge, I wonder if he was off to Redwall Abbey, I am sure the mice of the Abbey would have some lovely breakfast feast.

Down past the horse paddocks and await the completion of dog business and then time to get the app going.

Er phone what do you mean accessory isn't compatible? Mild panic as I worry that my skullcandy earbuds aren't going to work with not so dumb phone, it's the only thing I didn't test. I hit the ignore button and all seemed fine, turned on gps and zombies are go.

I now have the full zombie app so I listened to the first mission again, the one where the helicopter crashes. But it was a little different to the training app, as this time I was picking up items during my run oh and I had zombie chase option turned on, this is effectively an interval training thing, but you don't know when they are coming, to survive a zombie chase you have to speed up by 20% or more for up to a minute, eep (it's ok if you can't you don't get eaten you just drop some of your valuable supplies to distract them).

So after the first transmission it was me and my music first up Bon Jovi - I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Battle dog was off doing his own thing, having survived the helicopter crash our only option to was run and clear the area we knew the sound would attract the zombies.

Er battle dog where are you?

I had to retrace my steps, battle dog was having much fun paddling in the disused canal.... Eventually he sloped out and we resumed our run.

Metallica - Enter Sandman

Argh shelob has been out resetting her trap, I manage to evade them all.

Ozzy - Iron Man

Ferd get out of the canal, running on the spot while he swims to catch up and then drag him out. Cooling mist of water gently sprayed across my legs as he shakes.

Onward.

OMG the zombies are right behind us, run ferd, run.

A - Nothing

We are on my nemesis now.

On we go.

The zombies are behind us and can you believe it we had to stop, Ferd had something to er attend to and then a car came along, my nemesis is a road, it's a very quiet road, but being a good country girl, when I see a car I get as far onto the verge as I can if possible and stop holding the dog on a short lead this ensures as much safety all round as I can provide, the car can see you and knows you are stationary so can better judge how much room to leave.

Onwards we go, reaching the top of my nemesis and a short stop again to empty the dicky bag in the bright red bin.

Nemesis done, but we are still not back at base, when I did this mission on the training app it took me to about half way up my nemesis. Oh well onwards we must go, the zombies are behind and I want to get to the town and get behind the safety of those gates. This means I will have to run over the bridge and on streets, where muggles will see me. I have my big girls pants on I can do this.

Aerosmith - Love in an elevator

Onwards we go, I have no idea how much of the mission is left so I divert into the park, nearly there now. Mission ends just as the next tract starts

Eminem - Lose yourself

And stop app.

It was meant to be a short run, I was thinking more like 3k you know to ease myself back in and cause I am contemplating parkrun tomorrow. Turns out I almost did 5k.

Ummmm I think I will like this zombie running.

That sounds like real fun. I have just got to get myself some of that. I was thinking of Audiofuel but Zombies sounds like more fun

I hope your phone stayed dry. I took mine out with me last night (post Wobblegate debacle) and when I extricated from my sweaty Nikes after my run it was soaked! The middle of one's back gets very damp doesn't it. My phone is only a crappy one, which I had given me, so it doesn't really matter but I would be worried like you about it getting zapped from being too wet. I hope it all pans out with your new running belt

Happy running

Having a story element definitely helps to prevent boredom and should help keep the motivation up to keep going out to listen to the next bit.

Haha, I love it, Spoonie. Ferd's bowel movements are something that no running app could accommodate! So glad you're enjoying the zombie run and I'd love to know how that progresses. I have all those tracks on my playlist except Aerosmith, who don't score as highly on the 'hardcore' scale! Right, I need to jump in the shower and get out of this sweaty vest top...ewwwww! Have a fantastic weekend, and hug Ferd for me :)

The rest of the playlist is Iron Maiden - Run to the hills and GnR - Paradise City, I did have Cradle of Filth but I thought that might be a bit much for my brain and with zombies after me so I removed it from my play list :)

I will wait for Ferd to dry off a bit and then give him his hug from you :)

I saw Iron Maiden in Paris with A7X in support, and they were EPIC! Love Guns n Roses but would be tempted to do air guitar to Slash's solos, whilst singing (I use that term loosely) to bemused seagulls and dog-walkers.

It is hard to not sing (er screach badly) or do air guitar :) the poor coots. Last concert I went to was a few years ago saw Rammstein.

Now haven't you got a dissertation to write?

Hi SR, great post, great run, and great playlist. Eminem, eh? One of my favourite running tracks and so funny!

"Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity

To seize everything you ever wanted. one moment

Would you capture it or just let it slip?"

I really do think Eminem has a way with words.

spoonie - how do you get your playlist to go with Zombie Run? I got an iPhone specifically to use ZR and while i can run with zombies and I can run with music, I can't figure how to do both.

I had to create a playlist, it won't recognise the whole music library just playlists.

you create a playlist within the app? Sorry I am a terrible luddite and have only jut got my head around iTunes.

You create the playlist in your music player, so iTunes on your phone, then when you turn on the app it should pick up you have playlists, you might need to turn on the music option, which on my android version is at the bottom of the screen. If you go into the settings menu of the app there should be some help

Spoonie!

This Zombie running business sounds brilliant. I may have to investigate! Sounds like loads of fun, and that you enjoyed your run!

I'll be definitely Parkrunning tomorrow so will be your distant comrade-in-arms. I will give a salute at the start line.

Eminem! I have a few of his too. My personal fave is Ass Like that.

Good luck with the Parkrun if you go. :-)
