I finally made it out for my run, I was starting to find it easy to find reasons to not go out. I like running I really do but it's easy to come up with excuses to not go. Of course very expensive trainers when you have no money is good motivation.
So pep talk to myself done and I decided that I would try running this afternoon. I wanted to see if I could run later in the day as I want to give the sweatshop run community a try.
Ok it was hot but I knew that I would be fine without water as I was going for a 5k and nothing longer.
Started out fine about 18 minutes in and I am at the underpass, I walk this bit to prolong the joy of the shade. Off I go again. We reach the embankment up to the canal I walk. Ferd no. We pass the ducks. We resume running.
Splosh.
Yep battle dog in the canal. I shout at him and eventually he comes and I pull him out.
Off we start again.
Splosh.
OH FFS.
Around 10 minutes I was shouting at Ferd to get out of the canal as I was in full glare of the sun, because of course he picked the spot in full sunlight for his swim.
I was not impressed.
The rest of my route I ran walked, mostly ran but there was some walking which was allowed it was hot.
Made it to 5k and then the walked home.
5k
Around 55 minutes (including the time spent shouting at the dog)
No zombie chases as I wasn't listening to an app, I was just listening to the world around me it's good to be unplugged sometimes.
I survived.
Just.
I ended up dehydrated. I walked home slowly while feeling a little dizzy.
P.S. Why do my pictures keep going sideways?

Sounds like it was pretty hard going today Spoonie but you still did your 5k. Hope you are feeling okay now and managed to rehydrate. At least there was no ankle nipping dog to contend with, just your canal loving Ferd
Good stuff, Spoonie; glad you managed to make it out. Running in the sun is a bit.... meh.... isn't it? I'm not a fan at all. Really looking forward to autumn!
Sorry to hear about your dehydratory episode though. Do you not carry water on your runs?
I agree about enjoying listening to the world occasionally; it is nice and enjoyable, once one can get past the horrors of struggling with breathing!
Well done.
I found that putting, or trying to put, pics straight here from my phone would spin them sideways and I'd need to put them the right way up first, using an editing program. Why, I have no idea. Awkward photos are awkward. :-\
No I don't carry water, I shouldn't have needed it but I was out for much longer than intended because of dog meets canal. I do normally get in a little dehydrated, but it was horrible today complete with runners mouth - yuck.
I have though been looking at water carrying options.
The photos are the 'right' way up in my photo gallery but yes if I open them in a photo app and then re save them they do load the right way round. It's all very odd.
Now I just want sleep but the the neighbours are being very loud
Sodding neighbours. *glowers at them* hope they pipe down soon!
What water options are you looking at? Bottles are good but take some getting used to, especially in the rain as they're slippy to hold and gripping too tight causes forearm muscle ache. I try to hold my bottle loose so there's a bit of movement; that way I'm not unduly tense and causing muscle aches.
Camelbaks are good for longer distances, but again, takes a lot of getting used to due to the added weight.
I've given up trying to understand why the forum likes to spin our photos around! :-|
Something like this amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Perfo... I thought I might be able to manage that and the dog lead. Don't like the idea of the donut bottles.
I don't really go distances for which a camelbak would be required (yet!) I was considering one ages ago when I cycled regularly because I didn't like having to grab bottle and stuff it back in it's holder and negatiate weasels all at the same time
That looks ideal, Spoonie. 600ml is the same as my bottle, but that comes with handy pouchlets. I'm tempted by one of those as well. And, of course, it's pink; double bonus!
The doggie backpack is a good idea too, but remember his canal sploshing; even if there's nothing damagable in there, it'll take some drying out after a canal drenching!
It looks great, Spoonie. I'm thinking about getting one too. Extra pouchlets are always welcome, due to the inherent lack of them on running shorts. The 'pocket' they give you I only keep tissues in; I wouldn't trust it with anything else.
The colour is great; baby pink is my fave, but any shade of it is brilliant, so I wouldn't complain and would be happy to have neon pink.
As you say, it would be great for Parkruns. If you get the barcode card/keyrings you can buy too, you can stick it in the little pouchlet.
Yes, BTW, Ferd might object to becoming the Run Mule!
Oh Spoonie, your Ferd does make me chuckle! He is not the best personal trainer in the world, but you can't knock him for entertainment value! I don't like this heat either, it really takes it out of me, and I don't like carrying a water bottle. I hope you feel fully recovered soon and enjoy the rest of the day
I was not amused as the time, next run might be Ferdinand free.
I had dioralyte left over from food poisoning last year so I had some of that when I got in, made me feel better much quicker than plain water would have done. I don't think I have been drinking enough generally, I'm not a huge lover of water but in an effort to drink more I have been putting a jug in the fridge with fruit. Currently we have lemon infused water. I didn't want to keep mixing up squash as I get the stuff with sugar in so I try and limit how much of that I drink.
