Hi everyone…white rabbits and all that…

So…do you listen to music/podcast/audiobook etc or do you like to run without?

Personally, I can’t go without my podcast or music…I can’t stand the sound of my breathing…but…there’s an exception…when it’s really early morning I do turn my music off so I can listen to the birds singing their ‘morning has broken’ song…so how about you??

What do you listen to? Music? Audiobook? Podcast?

we have a few c25k playlists that have been cobbled together over the years too and they are good to keep running along to…in fact we haven’t done a new one for a while so that might be something I could organise!!?!

So tell us what’s your preference?

Happy running everyone…I’m just heading out to listen to my driving instructor podcast…no rest for the wicked 🤣🤣

🍏🤣🤣🤣 Oh I love that photo!!! Great question!!

I am a liquorice all sorts girl! Mostly music & different genres all the time… but I love podcasts, radio and talking books too. However I do love running ‘naked’ early morning like you for the birds, or to catch the sound of the sea and especially if I need thinking & planning time. However I love instrumental music which goes down well with reordering my life. For me variety is always the spice of life 🤣

Great question :)

For me it depends. I usually run with my husband so like to try and listen to what he's saying, but he's a lot faster than me so sometimes runs off into the distance. That's when I turn to music, usually from BBC Sounds.

For speed and tempo runs I need something to get me moving. Someone here suggested drum'n'bass so if I'm really going for it this works a treat. My son is really into d'n'b so he vets the Sounds playlists. He finds it hilarious that his ancient old mum listens to this stuff but he's very helpful and sweet about it.

Other days I just listen to Pacesetter playlists, not quite so energetic but motivating in their own way.

I've never tried a podcast, they are reserved for the ironing when I need to occupy my mind :)

Great question!

In practice, I run 'naked' because I can never get my Shokz charged or whatever. Otherwise I would likely be listening to something spoken word - podcast or book from the library... depending on how long I wanted to be out. I find spoken word better for keeping me going and would really like to sort the tech out. But if we're talking intervals, then music and I'll always have a soft spot for the podcast music.

One of the things that put me off starting C25K initially was wanting to be able to hear the environment and not just for safety reasons. So it was only ever one ear.

I love the sounds when I'm running...birds singing...kids playing...traffic making its various noises on its way to its various destinations. So when I'm outside I love to hear the hustle and bustle of unpredictable life. All the while I feel like I'm running a bit on the outside of this as if I'm in a slightly different world, an alternative universe for the 40-50 mins I'm running for. I would miss this feeling if I distracted myself with music. Still I must admit when I go to the gym ... Always ear buds in and music on the treadmill. I do find it a little dull on the treadmill, sorry to any treadmill lovers out there. Did enjoy Richard Burton on Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds though I must say...hadn't listened to it for a few months ... Anyway 'naked' outside and fully clothed inside. How contrary 😄

A good question, music or nothing for me, I tried a podcast once, couldn't concentrate on where I was going an listening to spoken word, music can blend into the background and I can concentrate on roads kerhs etc.

Great question! I always run with something to listen to. The most (tech) naked I get is running with friends!

All through couch to 5k, I had music I underneath the podcasts, usually from BBC Sounds. I absolutely love Drum and Bass but I found that tends to get me a bit over excited! I switched that for others to avoid accidental sprinting. The pacesetter mixes, Radio 1’s Happy (and Pop) Anthems the Chilled Drum and Bass mix were the ones I used most during the programme. Occasionally a bit of Radio 1’s Dance Party if I was flirting with a bit of speed!

I found audio books and talk based podcasts didn’t work with the app commentary. Too much going on at once to concentrate on for me!

Now I’ve graduated, I use a mix and choose mainly based on the sort of run in doing and whether there’s a podcast out I particularly want to listen to. I don’t know whether to confess with shame or pride that I now occasionally listen to music when I’m running with the husband!! That’s only at parkrun where I’m needing a bit of a push to get over the line thorough. We do talk at the finish!
