(I got to play with a new running app)

Tower I repeat this is helicopter 1 we've been hit, we're going down, this is an emergency.

Crash.

I come round, my head is a little fuzzy. Urgh what happened. Oh god the helicopter crashed. The pilot is dead.

The radio crackles.

Helicopter 1 please report your status.

Er tower the pilot is dead, I'm alive and unhurt, what should I do?

Helicopter 1 please report your status.

Oh great coms are busted. I search the wreck, I can't stay here it isn't safe. I find a portable coms unit, maybe it will work if I get closer to the base.

I'm not totally clear where I am going I take a rough heading towards the base - Able Town.

I must keep moving, I must survive, I run.

ZOMBIES.....

And all that was before 6am this morning.

I woke up early and couldn't seem to get back to proper sleep, I kept waking up, by 4am I was wondering if it was indeed too early to go out for a run. I decided it was too early but come 5am I was up and getting ready to go.

My plan today was just a short run, nothing to much as I have a big day planned tomorrow and I need to be rested for a long drive. So off we went.

Today I got to use a smart phone for the first time. OMG it plays music, it opened an app pretty quickly, it found gps. It ran an app, played music and tracked via gps all at the same time. Sadly it's not mine. My dumb phone can't even be called a phone at the moment as you can't even use it to make a phone call, it on it's way to phone hospital, which meant this morning I stole er borrowed my husbands phone.

Now I've been wanting to try the zombie run app, but dumb phone isn't smart enough, but husbands phone....woohoo.

He actually has zombies5k on his phone, it's their couch to 5k training plan - he had started it but then he hurt his foot and well he needs proper trainers, so hasn't got very far. I debating getting my husband to buy me the full zombie run app, but then I thought, what if I don't like it, and what if I do, I'd then have to pay for it again when I can eventually get a new phone (cause you know it would be on his app account and not mine). So I decided to try the training app. The first bit of the story wasn't training it was survival. .......

Tower: oh god there is someone moving down there, there is a survivor. They have a headset. If you can hear me run towards the tower, just keep moving. Your path ahead is clear.

I run on.

Tower: I don't want to alarm you but, but there is .. Well ... I'm no good in this sort of situation, theres an army of zombie behind you.

Oh god. Come on Ferd we've got to keep moving.

The story progresses and then suddenly I'm told there is a small group of zombies just behind me, I need to run and keep running I should be ok and ....

Splosh.

Ferdinand there are zombies they are right behind us this is no time for a swim. He was in the water for an eternity, the zombies getting nearer. Eventually he got out. I don't know how we survived but we did.

We near the gates of the town, they send out guards to shoot down the zombies and we run to safety.

Alive.

I really enjoyed it and I think I am just going to listen to the story on the training app I thought I could sprint, jog, rather than run walk and see how it goes.

P.s I have no idea why Ferdinand is sideways

P.p.s it's an app zombiesrungame.com

Are you ok or have you lost it?

The zombie app, as I understands it, tells you when to run/ walk etc but in the form of a story where you are being attacked by zombies :-)

I'm not sure I ever had 'it' to begin with :D it's a story based running app, you need to run to survive zombiesrungame.com

Oh great! Will have a look at that. Sounds fun.

It's certainly another motivator to go and get the next part of the story, there is also a game element to it.

Sorry I have added a bit to make it clear it's an app and I've not gone mad, or at least I hope!

This sounds amazing! I might give it a go! Please keep us posted Spoonie and give Ferd I lovely big hug from me. Poor dog looks terrified by the experience! x

Lol I did tell him off as we were about to be eaten by zombies.

Ferd is actually grumpy because I wouldn't let him under the duvet - I gave him the towel - he had wiggled in horse poo and then the swimming, wet and smelly as always.

From the intro run I did today the app sounds really good and the story element is a good motivator to keep you going, you get to listen to your own music.

My husband says on one of his runs before he hurt his foot he was totally immersed in the story and Ferd barked at him at just the wrong moment and made him jump.

Haha, that sounds dangerous but fun. Mind you, running through Fratton the other night past groups of drunken chavs was equally terrifying and motivational! No app needed ;)

PS Naughty Ferd, but how can you be cross at a dog with such a gorgeous face :) x

Years of practice, I am an experienced spaniel owner I can even resist the spaniel eyes :D

I would be terrified by drunken chavs, I think no matter how knackered I was I'd up my pace to escape.

Luckily towpath is mostly quiet just a few rowdy coots and swans.

That sounds fun!!!!!!! I don't have a decent phone either so it's mostly turned off as it's so rubbish. Maybe one day when I'm flush I will get a good un

I think the added jeopardy from the game would deffo make me run faster. It sounds a blast

I keep looking, I know the phone I want, but I'm still under contract so counting down to December when I can finally get a new lovely smart phone.

My dumb phone just about copes with runkeeper and I had to delete apps to get it to work. Still I don't think my husband will mind if I keep stealing er I mean borrowing his

Your zombie running sounds brilliant! :D That's what Laura needs to do; introduce zombies and helicopter crashes! :D What a great run that sounds; I hope the zombies weren't in any way responsible for Ferd being sideways up like that!

I looked this up and my son was so excited by it I ordered an iPhone this evening. Hahaha. I needed one anyway I tell myself. Now I will be able to summon help if I fall over while out running. Oh no, wait there is no mobile coverage where I run. Will have to get eaten by zombies.

I am not into zombies, have been hoping that some other themes would come along. In one of Dozzers posts, the idea of a Lord of the Rings running app came up. I might buy that, though my LOTR fanship is pretty minimal.
