Ok so I decided that I would head out without Ferd today, I also thought I would try another afternoon run.
So technical tops have been abandon in favour of my Rambo hipster bunny racer back t-shirt (as long as I don't have to deal with sweaty armpits running in cotton is fine).
Not too hot at a little after 3 this afternoon so seemed like a good time to go, as I'd never manage after dinner. Warm up walk, which way shall I go? I know today is my long day no set distance but building on 5k (although it's not a crime if I don't make 5k) but I didn't decided on route until the last minute, I took my short route the loops onto my long route but I hit the long route in reverse. So that sorted, fiddle with my phone, gps on, zombies are a go.
Today's mission to rescue a child that has been seen wandering alone in the waste land.
So beginning. Oh my this is hard. What on earth possessed me. I should have just left it for today and got up early tomorrow.
ZOMBIES.
All before my first five minutes let alone ten. Phew I got away.
On I ran. As much as I love my runs with battle dog sometimes it's really nice to just concentrate on the running.
Pass shelobs lair, thankfully no fresh traps laid (in case you are wondering I am not very good with spiders).
And a midge goes up my nose.
On I run.
Or was it a mozzy?
On I run.
Oh how delicious it's started to rain.
Across the first lock, for reasons of safety I kinda walk/skip down the steps.
Awwww look a family of coots, it's ok coots Ferdinand isn't with me you can swim in peace.
On I run. OMG I am still running.
Across the second lock.
On I run and then I spot some fishermen and of course they are partially blocking the path with their big brollies, I have no choice but to walk to navigate round them. On I go and then I reach the embankment to take me on to the other bit of the trail. It's steep so again for safety I walk down this bit. Running resumes.
On I go. Zombies have been chaseing me but I just don't have anything to give, faster is not an option today, I throw some of my stuff to distract them.
Go to that corner, make it to the next corner, make it to the next corner. Ok top of that incline you can stop.
And that's what I did.
Rest for a bit but as I am still about 20 minutes from home I walk and run, no set plan just as and when.
So I managed to get my zombie runs to ping to runkeeper, no need to have both running at the same time but it seems zombies is a little generous with the distance
Zombie results
5.93km
44.30 minutes
Av pace 7.29
Where as runkeeper says
5.27km
Av pace 8.26
I am inclined to think that runkeeper is probably the more accurate, so I shall have to keep this in mind when the zombie app is giving me my distance.
Either way I was really pleased with my run today.
Now however I am very stiff, especially my back, I do suffer chronic back pain but it's not been an issue in months, so I am wondering if it could be the new trainers? Today was outing number 3 in them. I have switched from trail to road, so I would have thought the extra cushioning would be better! Could it just be niggles of getting used to new trainers especially as I have run without cushioning until now? Has anyone else had or heard of issues with new shoes that settle down, a sort of adjustment period? How long does it take to settle down! I got them from sweatshop so I know I can replace them if I need to.
