Z2R1 - the long run. I was out to rescue a child. Battle dog free and trainers advice please.

Ok so I decided that I would head out without Ferd today, I also thought I would try another afternoon run.

So technical tops have been abandon in favour of my Rambo hipster bunny racer back t-shirt (as long as I don't have to deal with sweaty armpits running in cotton is fine).

Not too hot at a little after 3 this afternoon so seemed like a good time to go, as I'd never manage after dinner. Warm up walk, which way shall I go? I know today is my long day no set distance but building on 5k (although it's not a crime if I don't make 5k) but I didn't decided on route until the last minute, I took my short route the loops onto my long route but I hit the long route in reverse. So that sorted, fiddle with my phone, gps on, zombies are a go.

Today's mission to rescue a child that has been seen wandering alone in the waste land.

So beginning. Oh my this is hard. What on earth possessed me. I should have just left it for today and got up early tomorrow.

ZOMBIES.

All before my first five minutes let alone ten. Phew I got away.

On I ran. As much as I love my runs with battle dog sometimes it's really nice to just concentrate on the running.

Pass shelobs lair, thankfully no fresh traps laid (in case you are wondering I am not very good with spiders).

And a midge goes up my nose.

On I run.

Or was it a mozzy?

On I run.

Oh how delicious it's started to rain.

Across the first lock, for reasons of safety I kinda walk/skip down the steps.

Awwww look a family of coots, it's ok coots Ferdinand isn't with me you can swim in peace.

On I run. OMG I am still running.

Across the second lock.

On I run and then I spot some fishermen and of course they are partially blocking the path with their big brollies, I have no choice but to walk to navigate round them. On I go and then I reach the embankment to take me on to the other bit of the trail. It's steep so again for safety I walk down this bit. Running resumes.

On I go. Zombies have been chaseing me but I just don't have anything to give, faster is not an option today, I throw some of my stuff to distract them.

Go to that corner, make it to the next corner, make it to the next corner. Ok top of that incline you can stop.

And that's what I did.

Rest for a bit but as I am still about 20 minutes from home I walk and run, no set plan just as and when.

So I managed to get my zombie runs to ping to runkeeper, no need to have both running at the same time but it seems zombies is a little generous with the distance :(

Zombie results

5.93km

44.30 minutes

Av pace 7.29

Where as runkeeper says

5.27km

Av pace 8.26

I am inclined to think that runkeeper is probably the more accurate, so I shall have to keep this in mind when the zombie app is giving me my distance.

Either way I was really pleased with my run today.

Now however I am very stiff, especially my back, I do suffer chronic back pain but it's not been an issue in months, so I am wondering if it could be the new trainers? Today was outing number 3 in them. I have switched from trail to road, so I would have thought the extra cushioning would be better! Could it just be niggles of getting used to new trainers especially as I have run without cushioning until now? Has anyone else had or heard of issues with new shoes that settle down, a sort of adjustment period? How long does it take to settle down! I got them from sweatshop so I know I can replace them if I need to.

Good zombie evading there, Spoonie. :-)

What a great run, and at that time in the afternoon as well, well done! At least you got a nice bit of rain though!

When I first got my running shoes, that's when the week three/four pains and soreness appeared. Whether it was getting used to the new shoes or just getting used to running, I'm unsure but the chap at the shop did say to run small distances in them at first, and I just plodded on with the programme, but I was fine before and then the pains started, so much so I went back to my non-running trainers.

But, after a while, the soreness subsided. I hope your pains do too. :-) Great pic! :D

I think I could get used to afternoon runs.

Maybe.

I really need to try an evening run, the sweatshop run community one is at 6.30pm that's only a couple of hours before bedtime, but I would like to give it a try.

Only runners are happy when it rains :D (and Ferdinand's)

I still have time to make up my mind about the trainers, I think I just need to keep going out in them. After painkillers and lounging I am feeling less sore, fingers crossed I'm all good for tomorrow as it's pre employment medical number 3, this time I get to see a doctor.

New picture, where has the 'tash gone?

Yes, I wondered where the 'tash had gone too.

Sorry for the delay, Spoonie. Another manic day.

The Sweatshop Community runs look good. I too must get myself along to one. When are you planning on going for a Sweatshop run?

Glad you're feeling better now; you're probably just getting used to the new shoes. The same happened to me when I got mine.

Ah! I fancied a change. Also, I'd messed up a bit with the trimming; it was wonky, so I decided to start from scratch, though I'll wait while Movember I think and try again. I do miss it, but can always start again! :-)

Superb zombie run!

I would wear false ears if I were you because they are easy to grab, but judging by your time and distance, you're keeping a nice gap. Either way, a zombie chewing on your ear is not favourable.

Can't comment on trainers but I hope you get it sorted :-)

Umm false ears! It could work.

Though I do have terrible memories of false ears from when I was a child at a theme park.... I can't go on *sobs*

It's okay *pats your shoulder* they're only little elven ears. Like a nice little fairy. Think about the candy floss!!!

Great run Spoonie. The zombie app sounds "such fun" Sadly my 'smart' phone is too dumb to run it and I daren't contemplate a new one after the Garmin purchase!

Hope your back pain is gone now. Good luck with the medical, although I'm sure you won't need it, a fit young runner like yourself. :)

The poor nurse during phone medical number two, was like so is there anything else? And I kept saying well yes :D and I kept having to wait for her to catch up with typing.

I do like to be complex, why have one medical condition when you can have 5 (or how ever many I have now :D )

My dreams of a garmin keep getting pushed back ever further and today I realised I should be saving around £10 a month for trainers and running kit, seem this 'free' activity isn't so free afterall

Well Done Spoonie! Glad you've recovered from that undead infection :)

It sounds like you had a good run today despite a couple of obstacles. I have mixed emotions reading your post, relief on behalf of the little coots but such disappointment on behalf of poor Ferd, nothing is black and white is it :D

Do hope you settle into the foot clouds soon, Emily

He did look a little upset at being left behind and I was mean to him earlier cause I hoovered his dog cave (under the bed) and on top of all that we forgot his dinner, well not totally forgot, he did get it just an hour late.

Poor Ferd.

But he did get to help round up an escapee bunny.

I am hoping I need some more time out in the foot clouds, I hope it's just a niggle cause once I've got over the bouncing I do really like them

You should watch yourself Spoonie, another day like that and Ferd might join a union! You are however probably in good books with the RSPB....

Sure you'll settle in soon :)

Great run and I'll have to get that zombie app. When I got my new running shoes I had a few pains in my calfskin/shins but things improved after a few runs.

Thanks.

I'll just keep at it and see how I go, if it get worse then I'll will pop back to the shop and see what they suggest.

Hi Spoonie, I think Runkeeper is not as generous as it should be, as my Gremlin has me running 5.01K whereas Runkeeper says 4.98, which is SO annoying! I think that maybe the true result in your case is somewhere between the two. I hope the back pain settles down and that new shoes are the success you'd hoped they would be :)

spoonierunning profile image
spoonierunningGraduate in reply toTreemouse

I guess all I can do is stick to one for results to show progress and try and get to a park run regularly for progress on a definite 5k.

Hopefully I will have my very own garmin soon.
