A special thanks to Oldfloss for her catch up corner, full of support and wonderful musings.
So Acknowledge…..Accept….Adapt we’re the words of wisdom I read in the catch up corner the other day!
That made me think 🤔
I have a tumour, in my mouth, the biopsy results appointment isn’t til 31st March….. I’m off sick from work, mostly because the high levels of pain pills leave me drowsy, lethargic and sleepy. I’m not after sympathy.
I’ve been balancing the dose of pain relief to keep the pain manageable but at the same time to be able to do things. I’ve done a lot of reading as you do and the biggest message is keep in as best condition as possible to face whatever comes next.
Should I go for a run when I’m being paid sick pay? probably not but life’s got a bit too comfy and flipping miserable on this couch however many cushions are plumped up.
To the park we go, lots of faffing beforehand, it’s been 17 days since we ran so things like eat buds need charging and for some reason repairing with the watch.
The sun shines the sky is blue the grass is green all bright and vibrant, warm up walk once round is about 5 minutes, lots of doubts fill my mind, can I run? will it hurt more? well only one way to find out!
Off we trot, really slow, gentle steps, quiet breathing, but it’s running, once round, phew it’s hot, off with the long sleeves, round again, yup 👍 😀 I can run 😀 so I smile as i potter along, feeling the sun on my shoulders with my rock Willow beside me, full of concern but also pleased to be out in the sun.
30 minutes which included the warm up walk, slow and steady.
It took a while but we
Acknowledged…. that I need to take it a bit easy
Accepted…. that pushing for speed or distance it out for now
Adjusted….by taking it slow and having no firm plan of how long we would run.
Willow enjoyed the steady pace and his knees didn’t protest at all, we enjoyed seeing spring flowers in the park and while we haven’t been to the park someone has planted a circle of silver birch trees… my favourite after the Oak.
Thank you everyone

When life is throwing you curve balls, it’s good to do “normal” stuff. Getting out there and running…no matter how slow…no matter how short a distance…is part of *you*. Getting out in the sun, seeing Mother Nature at work is good for the soul and defo needed and perfectly acceptable when on sick leave. Sending love 💕 💕💕
Thank you thank you and sending love back and strong legs of course
It sounds like that run was perfect for today. It can only do you good, it can only help. It’s important to do what you need to do, whether that’s a walk some days or a gentle run on others. 🤗 D-d xx
Hello I have been reading your posts but not replying - sorry. I appreciate that you are not looking for sympathy. I was so very pleased that you had a run today and I wondered if you would be interested in reading about my neighbour. Also a runner, also with medical uncertainties, but only 31 and with 3 children, one a baby of just 5months now.gofundme.com/f/laurens-fund...
If you are interested I shall update you on her progress
What a lovely blue sky it must have felt so special to be out today.
Can’t see anything wrong with running while you are on sick pay, under the circumstances. It’s better in the long run (!) for your employer that you keep your morale up. Well done.
I run for my mental health and at this point you should too. It will lift your spirits and keep you mentally strong but you know that already 🙂'Do anything you wanna do' is how the song goes I think - you're lucky too that your rock goes along with you. Thinking of you.
It was such a lovely day today Sola and just perfect for your gentle trot. It really is so good for the soul that you should do it while you can. It is great that the slower pace allows Willow to joining you too.
It's wonderful that mother nature had your back today and put on her best show to make your run extra special.I think you just need to do what feels right for you during difficult times.
Very glad you made the decision to run and enjoyed it. The fitter you are the stronger you will be to face whatever comes next and that includes work. And we all know that exercise is great for mental health too. Thinking of you both..
A beautiful and inspirational post Sola. Great that you managed to get out for a run with Willow. Wishing you all the very best on your road to recovery 👍
Glad you enjoyed your run. It’s good for the soul, especially in the spring sunshine. I find it puts me in the moment too which gives me relief from the stresses of life if only for a little while. My friends husband recently found a lump in his neck and has had to have intensive radio and chemotherapy for 6 weeks. Every week I ask her ‘Still running?’ and the answer is ‘yes’. He’s only got one week left and he has run throughout.
Running 🏃♀️ is good , running🏃♀️ + 🌞 is better but running 🏃♀️ + 🏃♂️ + 🌞 THE BEST.Thinking of you both. Get out and do whatever makes you both feel good.
I’m happy to use the grill but well it was the toaster Willow brought with him when he moved in 9 years ago, as to 🎂 we have a run of birthdays coming up so some baking going to be done
It sounds as if you gained a lot more than just a good, enjoyable run. Lots of wisdom and strength in your post and I can only imagine and hope that this strength and wisdom will carry you through this difficult period. Take care, I'm sending good thoughts your way.
Thank you so much 😊 yesterday was a good day, today not so great but we managed to get some shopping and looked at the blue sky Hope you can get out of isolation soon it’s no fun being stuck inside
I’ve not been keeping a very close eye on the forum recently so have only just read your post properly Sola. I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and will be thinking of you on 31st. In the meantime, the wonderful Willow will keep you steady as you get yourself out there for a walk or a run in this wonderful spring sunshine!🤗
Same as OGR I haven't been on the forum for ages. Sorry to hear your news - hopefully you wil be sorted quickĺy and make a good recovery. Obviously that run was just the thing for both of you. Sending lots of hugs and positive vibes your way. Xxx
Great stuff…..was just wondering how you were doing. Sick leave does not mean you need to hide away. Best thing you can do is what you fancy. A little run in the sunshine is not the same as a full on shift!
Thank for sharing this with us. It was so moving and inspirational. I’m so pleased you were able to enjoy your run. I will be thinking of you in the coming week and on the 31 st. In the meantime enjoy your exercise and rest well. As you so rightly say you need to be in the best possible condition. Take care and 🤞.
Ahh, thank you for letting us know, I wondered how you were. As ever, you are such an inspiration and so positive, though you probably don't feel so at the moment; it's the scariest time waiting for results but those three As will help you through whatever happens. You have always taken such joy from the natural world and I am sure it will wrap you its warm embrace and help you through 🦋🐌🌻🍀🌳🌨🌞. Keep doing what you can and want to do, especially eating toast 😋 👌🏃♀️🏃🧗♀️🧘♀️ . All the best for 31st.
