Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Morning everyone. What a lovely day (at least here in the West Country it is), perfect for PR.
Volunteering at Eastville today and it was throwback Saturday as Flossie and I barkcode scanned for the first time in ages. ๐ฅฐ I had plenty of customers, lots wanting some post-PR pup therapy! Flossie of course loved the attention, but Iโm sure she was confused why I wouldnโt let her chase sticks like she used to. Still, she had fun, and we were standing in the sun with over 600 parkrunners making the most of the delightful sunshine. ๐
Bath Half tomorrow. Now Iโm getting serious ๐ฆ
I'm sure your queue was twice as long as the others Cheeky, with the added attraction of Flossie! All the best for tomorrow - I have great confidence that you'll smash it.
Hi Damien. My pal pulled out of Park Run today with a heavy cold, but I went anyway. It was only 1C when I left the house, but I think it hit 3C before the start. A much smaller field than last week, but I managed a new Park Run PB, 5k PB ( 27.59โฆyay I scraped under 28 mins !) new 1k PB and a new mile PB! As ever at Albert Park there is a big gap between 5k time and Park Run time(28.48)โฆ..but the latter was 7 seconds better than last week, so going in the right direction. Had a nice chat with a Park Run Tourist from Cumbria who had come down to Albert Park for his A. He was unhappy at the absence of an X in this country! Maybe one will appear some day. Hope everyone had a great morning ๐
Amazing effort and huge congratulations to you on your new PB. Fantastic achievement. I understand how your friend was feeling, that was me last weekend, I could only manage to walk at parkrun with my cold. It is still hanging around but Iโm getting stronger every day.
Good afternoon Damien and other parkruners, on a beautiful but frosty morning I ran my 134th parkrun at Palacerigg Country Parkrun in a time of 33:09, #27 at Palacerigg, before the run I volunteered as one of the pre parkrun event day course checkers, helping to put the various markers on the course, this was my 25th volunteer duty, l'll be back at Palacerigg in two weeks time as a marshall, I had a nice run and a little cake at the end.
Thanks cheekychipmunks Itโs a bit crazy isnโt it; fun though ๐! I must try not to get into a โtry to go faster every weekโ patternโฆwe know what comes at the end of that! Hope your butterflies settle before the start line. You will be just fine.
It was a low-key celebration of my 200th parkrun this morning at Portsmouth Lakeside - partly because I might have had to rearrange at short notice and also my Southsea running buddies were celebrating the return of their parkrun course to its original location. However I had a shout out from the RD and encouragement from other runners, and it was a beautiful morning so job done! Given the head cold that I'd developed over the last 24 hours, I was happy with a time of 31.27 - only 50 until my 250 now!๐
๐๐พ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๏ธ๐ฅ๐ โฆokโฆ..no more of this low key stuff! That is a great achievement JP ๐๐๐๐๐. 31.27 with a head cold is not to be sneezed at (sorry โฆโฆ..๐). Congratulations on your 200 not out and hereโs to many more ๐ป
Heyyyyyyy, that was sneaky JonathanP , whatโs all this low key talk? Who wants that? ๐ Glad you got a shout out though, so at least it was recognised in proper PR style. Donโt you dare sneak your 250 in without fanfare though. That would never do! ๐
Congratulations! So sorry we couldnโt be there for your 200 JP. It was definitely a case of all hands on deck at Southsea this morning. Im glad that you were cheered on in style. Did your numbers go down this morning - we had over 650!
Early start to head to Dulwich Parkrun (South East London) to get our letter D.
Itโs a fast, flat (ish) 3 laps around the park in glorious Spring like conditions. And a popular one as well.
Course record still held by Alex Yee (13:57) in Dec 2018. Wasnโt quite going to match that today ๐(in my dreams).
Anyway made it round in 33:02 & husband in 21:23.. Also bumped into an old family friend who Iโve not seen in 30 odd years. She started a running club close to where I grew up and my dad subsequently joined and later on became chairman of (he handed over the reigns last year) which was lovely.
Sounds like a great morning beth_f. We had the sun, but freezing temperatures cancelled the effect! Warmer weather predicted for next week๐ค. Alex Yee is from another planet ๐โโ๏ธ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐จ
Iโm still after a D ย beth_f , so Iโm somewhat envious. ๐ They are few and far between around here. Well done on your great result (and your husband is a speedy one isnโt he!?)
Nice one Beth! Iโve seen a YouTube video of Dulwich with Nick Bester - he finds the quickest parkruns, but even he isnโt fast enough to better Alex Yeeโs time. I agree with BC that he is from another planet, especially after his Paris Olympics performance.
I know what you mean cheekychipmunks - Iโve been looking at what Parkrunโs are doable locally and J & Y are probably our struggle locally. (And yes Mr Beth is more speedy than when I first met him some 27 years ago when he was doing 5kms in 24mins plus, then had a 12 year break and somehow became more speedy in the last couple of years! - and annoying as does next to no training in the week ๐ฌ๐ณ)
Just trying not to nod off after a busy morning. As Katnap and I are unable to do our long training runs tomorrow we did a parkrun sandwich today. I had 3 hours on my plan for tomorrow and I was desperately trying to find a way round it last night as Iโd already had a long week and my legs were achey and tired. In the end I just decided to see what I could do, even if I had to walk some of it, it would be 3 hours on my feet.
We set off on part one of the sandwich, going down The Greenway, a popular old railway line, then we came back with about 10 minutes to spare for parkrun. Katnap dashed off from there onwards as he didnโt want to do 3 hours and was going to be much quicker than me. Quick comfort break, a gel, and then we were off. Found lots of people to natter to and it made the next 35 minutes fly by. I finished parkrun with just over half of my 3 hours to finish off. I did another lap of the parkrun course, had another gel and then I went back to The Greenway again, this time on my own but with a very good playlist courtesy of Spotify.
Went a bit further down the track this time but I had the incentive of a nice big lunch to get back to at our usual cafe. The time went by much more easily than the previous weekโs 2hr 10 and I soon found myself finishing off the time by doing laps around Bancroft Gardens by the RSC. Katnap sent a message that I had a coffee waiting for me and I soon found myself tucking into a big bacon and egg sandwich, baked beans and some avocado slices.
A very satisfying run, a revelation that is making me think that the best way to handle my remaining long runs for the plan would be to continue with the parkrun sandwiches ๐ฅช, especially if they contain bacon and egg ๐
The maddest thing of the day was to find that Iโve done nearly 71k this week as Iโve done two long runs in a week ๐ฑ Amazed I managed todays run but Iโm very glad I have. I should remember my mantra: you wonโt find what youโre capable of unless you give it a try.
Have a great runny week everyone, Iโm now going to have a nap ๐
Just amazing TC. I reckon that I will have to run 3 hours to make 26.2k. Plenty of Tailwing and bloks needed I thinkโฆ..and a good meal waiting for me afterwards!!
I reckon you could do it BC. I was just under and Iโve much shorter legs than yours (I think Iโm wearing them down!). A good meal waiting is also a great incentive. Iโm a big fan of food ๐
Did Walthamstow with my friend Karl. He is waaaay faster than me, so he took a pic of me running behind the sign ๐
I brought my trail shoes cos I heard it could get muddy, but it was fine. The ground was moist, but manageable.
Iโd read that some people consider this parkrun โboringโ as itโs just an average park with no defining features, but the leisure centre in the middle with kids playing football and the 2 slight inclines made the 3 loops interesting.
hello all, itโs been a frantic few weeks with UTS taking the lead on getting our return to our old start area . So many people wanted to join us in the sunshine today that we had our 2nd highest number of runners . A double funnel came into play for the first time in 18 months.
I was a running marshal to report on how the run was from the field and give the occasional direction. However, before Iโd done my first km someone in front of me fell, so I stopped to assist . By the time Iโd made sure they were ok and took runner details for RD, I decided I was so far behind everyone that I was more useful at base.
So no run , but followed with a post run discussion to sort out a few things to change for next week with coffee.
This morning I decided to get back to doing some parkrun tourism. So I awoke at 6am and after a quick breakfast I was on my way to Galway over on the West Coast of Ireland and a journey of 2.5 hours, I had a quick pitstop along the way and arrived in the car park of Knocknacarra parkrun. The pre run briefing was so funny, it was a very complicated 4 lap course with loop that intertwined all over the place. The volunteer lady doing the first timers briefing tried her best to explain the course but admitted that it was too difficult to explain and just pick out a local and follow them. It was a lovely bright and calm spring morning and for the first time this year I was just in a T-Shirt. Off we went and I just followed the crowd. The course was easier to follow once you were with a local. I felt stronger today and had recovered from my cold good enough to get a finish time of 27:50 and in 29th place out of 86 runners and walkers. Another Republic of Ireland parkrun ticked off my list. I aim to do 16 different ones this year, and that 3 out of 16 done. โ๏ธ
