Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Finish token sorting today - close to 400 tokens - AND a new PB!! Yay. Wasn’t expecting it or trying for it, but there it is. Ally Pally today, Pinner junior tomorrow…
Good morning Damien. Back to Albert Park this morning, with caution in mind following my fall last Monday. Still a bit bruised and battered. I ran into another old school mate this morning. He has been out for weeks with an injured calf, but decided to give it a whirl today and see how things went. The answer was 24:27 for him; he will see that as slow. I hope he comes to see it as a step in the right direction. His best is 19:26, but that was some years ago.
It was sunny, but there was still a nip in the wind; definitely two shirts for me. There were 338 runners today; everyone was in sunny smiling mode, which is always good to see. I finished in 168th place, just better than half way in a Park Run time of 28:35. Given that I was consciously holding back a bit in the early stages,I am quite happy with that. I had a chat with my running buddy over a bacon and egg post run sandwich; we decided to try a new venue next week! Stewart Park is nearer to home than Albert; the average pace will be slower, but it is a new challenge and a really nice environment, so we will see how it goes. Who knows there may be more faces from my past lurking there 🙂
It’s lovely to try out different parkruns Beachcomber66 and we intend to do a lot more tourism this year . Well done on getting out there even if you had to hold yourself back a bit,
Thanks Dexy5. Long run planned for Monday. That will be test my knee needs to pass. 😊 I think that Stewart Park might just one big loop rather than the 2 plus a bit laps I am used to. We will see how it goes 👍
I am still long distance man really TC, but I am enjoying running with others around me. One thing has remained constant; my only opponent is me. I don’t look out for people to overtake…..Park Run is definitely a run not a race (which is just as well😉).
Totally agree. It is a community rather than a gathering of individuals. It’s that opportunity to run (or walk) with lots of others, for free, regularly, that makes it unique.
Sorry to hear about your fall BC - doesn't seem to have interfered with your current run of great times? Hope your recovery continues and you enjoy your tentative tourism next week!
The after effects of the fall are limited thanks JP. I did think that the wound might be infected but Urgent Care people said it was ok. I was cautious because I had an infection which lasted for ages after my last fall two years ago. I will take the covering off tonight and keep my fingers crossed….if I can do both at the same time 🙄
Missed last week due to hay fever getting the better of me so this week I was determined to get a Parkrun in. It has also been nearly 2 weeks since I last run but have been ramping up my strength training.
We decided to head to Hove Prom this morning as the sea breeze does help with the pollen.
Was a busy turnout and just seen the results that 999 participants took part. It was a little breezy but was welcomed as it was already quite warm.
Husband got his best time ever at 20:45 (he’s chasing a sub 20) and I got my best time this year at 32.27.
Thanks Dexy5 TailChaser . The finish was hysterical as between 25 to 35 min runners is probably the busiest and we all came crashing into each other. Thankfully Hove are brilliant at the funnel. I don’t think it will be too long till they reach 1000 which would be quite something given there are another 4 in Brighton & Hove.
We’ve had to extend our funnel now as one week, when we had 650+, the runners were queued up beyond the finish line - we had to move the timekeepers 😱 We haven’t had that many since and there was no rhyme or reason for it, so we just have to be on our guard each week as we don’t know when it will happen again 🤷🏻♀️
Hello all, such a beautiful day at Southsea but an easterly 17mph wind was in our face on the way out and once behind us it felt incredibly hot. I had 3 sub 7.00 pace kms , but interspersed with 2 sub 7.30. Garmin time 35:33 and parkrun time 36:12. Now if it had been 36:21 I would have ticked off stopwatch bingo. I will have to try again next week. 2nd of 5 in age group , missed by just by just 4 seconds.
As usual we were sheltered from the breeze at Lakeside (and partly from the sun by the trees), but it did feel warmer than expected. You'll get '21 today!' soon I'm sure!
Mini meetup for me this morning. But what a meetup - I was treated to a visit by two HU legends, Mudita11 and SueAppleRun . 😍Sue was after her East, and rather like when damienair visited a few years ago for the same reason, it was the (insert word of choice) B course! 🥵 I did forewarn my chums, but they were game on.
For those fortunate enough not to have done it, it’s 3 x laps of the whole park which is on a slope …. so each lap has a long uphill. I minced my way round running non stop in an unsurprising time of 42:58 Garmin, 43 something official. No running since last Sunday, but at least I’d managed my circuits session on Wednesday so I felt good throughout, I just need more running!
On our way back I showed them the lovely lake we normally run around. The tree’s still there mostly across the path, with birds nesting in it. It’ll be there a while.
Anyway, lots and lots of chatting to be had over brekkie at the giant Tesco, and crazy plans for a reciprocal trip to Norfolk! It will happen. 😃
Legs had sort of recovered from Sunday’s long run so I thought I’d do my last parkrun sandwich of this marathon training block. A 2 hour run was on my plan, so I did an hour before parkrun, a steady parkrun and then a couple more laps of the park to finish it off. That worked out nicely, so I was soon in the cafe with Katnap, eldest kitten and the RD for brunch (eldest kitten was helping with the results) 😋 I was absolutely starving by those last two laps as I’d only had a cereal bar and a gel.
It was another lovely day in Stratford but our numbers were surprisingly down this week at 461. I think many people were already away on holidays.
This week past was supposed to be tapering but, as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t feel like I was truly tapering until after this one. I hope I don’t get too grumpy!
Back to Chadderton (94th time there) this morning for parkrun number 133.
Glorious weather but no breeze. Decided to wear my black parkrun 100 tee shirt and shorts.
Arrived with a few minutes to spare. Said a hello to a few familiar faces, and then we were off.
Started roughly two thirds into the group. It was another busy morning with over a hundred taking part. (It was even busier last week with 160.)
There was even someone doing a run sandwich who arrived about twenty minutes after the "go".
Anyway, I started moving forward in the pack from about half way round the first lap. There was too much bunching before then.
The first lap also saw me showing off my hill climbing ability as I powered up the S-shaped slope. On subsequent laps I wasn't as keen on doing that.
There was a fellow running with an action camera who seemed to be recording his daughter's run.
I lapped the tail walkers twice and got lapped myself by a pair who were happily chatting away between themselves, looking like they were just doing a light jog (but doing a sub 21 minute run).
As I was on the finish straight someone sprinted past me. The lad running topless ahead of me doing his first parkrun didn't realise he had to register to get a placing.
I hung around afterwards chatting too much, leaving far later than I'd intended.
Official time: 30:49, an improvement on two weeks ago which was 31:52, and my fastest since June last year.
Another beautiful morning at Southsea Damien, we’ve been so lucky recently. I was on Finish Tokens today, handing out 524 of them. My co-FTer was a first-timer, having signed up but not run or volunteered until today. It was lovely showing her the ropes and she went home very happy with the friendliness and camaraderie between everyone involved - definitely a parkrun convert! All followed by a very filling breakfast and 2 coffees with Dexy5 and UpTheStanley, yummy!
Warm this morning at Portsmouth Lakeside - 342 finishers with 51 first-timers. Unfortunately someone had a fall in the lake section, but after recovering she scanned her barcode before getting a lift home - that's commitment for you! I came in at 31.40 - improvement on last week plus age grade bump due to birthday this week. 55.68%, so I think I'll need a sub-30 before I get back to 60%!😀
Good afternoon Damien and other parkruners, this morning I ran my 137th parkrun at Springburn parkrun in Glasgow, got the train there but I got a lift back home by a kind volunteer who had been bar codingVery happy with my time and age grading which was 31.48/63.16 % respectively, the weather was warm and sunny, believe it or not for the very first time ever at parkrun there was a nun walking and running a little from a nearby convent, my friend the bar coder asked her if she was a real nun or just dressed up as one but she told him she was a real nun, yes parkrun is open to everyone.
