We decided to go for a run round our old stomping ground the park, the adapted bikes were out, all shining brightly coloured in the sun, we did our usual one lap five minute warm up walk, ran off together but Willow was taking it gently so I left him and went off in front, I was puffing a bit, just a bit but kept going as i had settled into a good comfortable pace. The sun shone down on me, I’m practising wearing a cap for those rainy days when I need it.
1k run at 8min 37 secs, faster than lately so I can stop worrying that I’m puffing a bit. This is mildly uncomfortable but not hard.
Round again and see Willow, hand to his groin walking, he’d been following a man walking and felt bad he couldn’t catch him up so he sprinted past and felt pain in his groin so walked back to the car.
I decided I’d had enough of going round and round so decided to cross over go down the hill and a bit round the lake, second kilometre was slower because it was wet and slippery, I was running at the edge of the path and my foot went over the side, it felt like I’d badly twisted my ankle, lost my balance and down I went. A family asked if I was ok as I got up and yes I was 😀 bit of blood, stinging hands, ankle ok so I turned and walked back to Willow who was full of sympathy, brought me home and made me tea.
So….. my first ever fall, I’ve always been frightened of falling and nothing bad happened, my glasses didn’t break, my bones didn’t break and my ankle didn’t swell so I’m celebrating not being badly injured.
I’ve been saying for years I run to maintain fitness strength and balance, I’m running away from a fall, a broken hip and zimmer frame and I’ll continue because I enjoy it
Run happy or rest well
Looking at the photo it doesn’t look sunny but I’m sure it was

Ouch! Hope you're both OK! Scary falling .... as I was driving home the other night I could see lights coming down the mountain... fast.... could only be people running down in the dark! I just thought 'how crazy!' and I'd probably end up rolling down if I tried it!! Take care and hope you both get back out soon.
Thanks, I’m celebrating because I’m fine and really didn’t expect to be
Sorry to hear about your fall, glad to hear you are not too badly hurt.
I know it can really shake you up. I had a fall while running a couple of years ago, bruised but not broken summed it up but clothes and phone got a bit damaged. I found the shock was probably as bad as the pain. It took me a while to get my confidence back and for a while was over cautious around the area I fell.
Ouch! elbows can really hurt, I assume my grazed leg will heal, my hands have been a bit stingy all day but no broken skin, I feel very lucky. I’ve had an odd week, I cancelled a CT scan because I thought it was yesterday and I was on training for work then read the letter and it was this morning when i’m off, and I booked my covid booster for tomorrow thinking it was friday, I’ll just have to struggle through friday at work and rest the weekend
That’s probably it! Thank you Dexy, I was beginning to think i was going mad, I had last weekend off because I worked my weekend off the week before, yup quite confusing,
Ouff! I’m so pleased you didn’t hurt yourself 😊. I love the fact you’re running away from a Zimmer frame etc, one of the many excellent reasons to run!
People laugh when I say that but yesterday i was on training and there was a woman sat next to me and we were chatting and when she got up she was walking with a stick, she is much younger than me
Thank you, yes, the way my ankle turned over and the pain I wouldn’t have been surprised if it swelled up and I’d hobble, so I was lucky, you weren’t so lucky with your shoulder. It’s still 17 degrees here and that’s very warm for October, I should be seaswimming but there just isn’t time
ouch! It *is* a shock when a fall happens! I tripped over a curb on the path on my first 60 minute run. I was so shook up I walked back home. No permanent damage to me, but I badly scratched my varifocals. Now I’m always a little apprehensive at this time of year with the wet leaves on the paths…so slippery!
Thank you, yes I was shook up but so pleased I didn’t break anything, badly scratching any glasses is bad news but varifocals costly to replace, I’ve only had my new ones a few weeks
Poor you falling over, it really does shake you up…. I fell a couple of years ago and it took me a while to regain my confidence. I now wear my older specs as I always fear breaking my varifocals ( it’s the reading bit that has changed) so I don’t have to worry too much about damaging them in a possible tumble . Very glad to hear that you are both ok, I do enjoy reading your posts, they are always so upbeat. I’m sure you will be back out there very soon. 👍😊 xx
Hope you’re OK after your fall, whether injured or not it shakes you up ! I’ve had two falls to date, second one, although nothing serious, enough to get my partner to come and pick me up. If I fall my watch automatically informs my partner if I don’t cancel it in time. Very useful and it also tracks my run so she can see where I am🤗. I use a “peak” instead of a hat, I’ve noticed that I find it more difficult to run( or walk) into the sun nowadays, something to do with age!! And as you say stops the rain hitting your glasses.
Love your comment running away from a Zimmer frame, 🤣😂 great attitude.
O no now we can add ankles to the hips and knees. 🤣🤣 so sorry to hear about your fall but glad you could get up and got home safely to be pampered by Willow Rest well take it easy and heal quickly. The next run is out there waiting for you when you are fully mended.
Hello you two; what are you like!? Trying to be a sprinter in Willow’s case and Sola going off road impromptu….there must have been something in the air! Glad that you are both ok. 🙂
oh no! It’s always a shock when something like this happens, isn’t it. Hope you feel ok after that eventful mishap. And hoping it hasn’t affected your running, mentally.
Sorry to hear you fell SueAppleRun , pleased that it wasn't too bad though. I'd suggest you get back to where you fell just as soon as you're up to it, helps slay the demons. Heal well, and happy future running!
Thank you, that’s a good idea I will do that at the weekend, I was going for a short run after work today but booked my covid booster so doing that instead
Welcome to the tumble club. I'm the sort who will dust myself off, pick out the larger bits of gravel and continue the run, even with the blood dripping down my legs. Then I get a severe bending of the ear when I get back home as I should have called for her to pick me up.
Monty Python's Black Knight. Quote: "Tis just a scratch." "A SCRATCH? Your arm's off!"
Thank you, I think I probably would have if the guy hadn’t asked me if I was ok, then I just needed to get back to the car, I was only planning another 1k
