Nike Run Club! who would have thought it?

We have a cold! I wondered why yesterday’s 2k run felt so hard, but I’m fine, a couple of pain pills and apart from tired feel ok

Today just a bit snotty no need for pain pills

Willow was feeling a bit rough last night and woke this morning with little energy and a really sore throat.

I wanted to run, the sun is shining and I spend so much time at work lately I feel I’m missing out , a short run though as going in to work later.

Bored with my playlists, don’t know what to do so had a look at NRC

There’s a 20 minute starter run so let’s start

Out the door, oh dear where’s the 5 minute warm up walk? Coach Bennett is telling me to run slow, so I warm up running slow, out of the close, right turn, jog along listening, can I say a whole sentence? yup, luckily no one around, keep going, over the railway bridge, I’ve never managed to run all the way up one side before, pace has slowed even more, 1k in 9 minutes wow that’s faster by 15 seconds than yesterday but keeping it steady

Right turn now I’m almost to the park and Coach tells me we are half way, round a crescent and turn for home, back over the railway bridge, steady as you go and wishing i hadn’t put my jacket on too lazy to take it off

Flowers in gardens, trees with green leaves, blue sky and if i look north the South Downs a mile away all so beautiful

2nd k 8.54 whoop whoop

Finished 😀and a bit of a walk home,

Thank you everyone for your inspirational posts

Enjoy today

Not surprising to have a cold W&S- record breaking temperatures one day and sleet and snow the next! Sound like a nice run in the sun. I have managed to perfect removing my running jacket, zipping it up and tying round my waist without stopping.

We’ve been cold free for so long, generally if someone at work gets a cold it whizzes through us all but masks and extra infection control have helped loads but this one has been meandering round for a few weeks now and I thought I’d missed it I can usually get my jacket off and tied round my waist no problem but today just couldn’t be bothered, it was only a short run though so didn’t get too hot

I’m hoping that now more people’s are thinking about how these things get passed on, there will be less cold and flu going round in future too.

I’m hoping that too

Fantastic!! I have used NRC since graduation. It is amazing! I love Sarge Maje Garmin as he actually wants me run walk, it’s a new world and I stay out longer that way too. But Coach Bennett is my first love after Michael Johnson in C25k and you’ve just reminded me. Those guided runs are fantastic. I might have to do a bit of two timing actually! I don’t want to go to three timing again (C25k) 😉....Well done & Enjoy! ❤️

Ha ha and good morning I’ve looked at it before but never tried it, I’m hooked for now

I love Coach Bennett. Actually, I use the mindful guided runs more that CB on his own. I notice that when I’m listening to CB and Andy Puddicombe talking I really concentrate on what they are saying - it’s largely down to CB that I start easy and warm up properly.

What a nuisance you caught that cold! Well done for your run, though. An improvement in pace is always rewarding, especially if you weren’t trying for it!

I was listening and following instructions to keep my breathing good and not stopping to walk, it fazed me a bit when he said run right from the start so i kept it nice and gentle, my colds not too bad thanks mostly nose, Willow however is coughing and feeling miserable, I’m on a late again tomorrow too so may even get another short run in, I’m all excited about running again 😂

That’s great news! When I’m doing the NRC guided runs, I usually do my warm up walk before I press ‘start’ on the run , as I don’t like to have that part included.

Well I didn’t know, I will probably do that in future, today was a quick pop out to see what it’s like and I really enjoyed it, I been looking for something motivational for a while and seems I’ve found it

They really are good! I use them on the longer runs, too. They hold your interest and make you think. It’s great that you’ve found your motivation! 😊

Andy Puddicombe says on one of those guided runs that if you’re looking for motivation, then it’s still there. Like the blue sky above the clouds, sometimes it’s hidden for a while. I liked that! I thought of that a lot in recent runs.

Glad you enjoyed your NRC run 👍And yes, you need to warm up first 😁

Hope your colds get better soon 🤞

That sounded great! I downloaded the NRC app ages ago and still haven't used it. Must give it a go. Do you play your music along with it or just use NRC alone?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toFionamags

There is a nike run club playlist, i generally use Amazon and i don’t think they connect but Apple music and spotify playlists work

Hiya

hope you don't mind me answering too. My other half laughs at me, as I start my spotify app off first, then I start my strava app off , then my fibit timer on my watch and then the NRC guided run. I love the fact that the music just quitens down whilst Coach Bennett talks. I sometimes use their music playlist, but much prefer to use my own from the free version of Spotify.

👍🏃‍♀️

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toHedgehogs123

Hey thanks for the answer, are you saying I can use my own playlists? and it will still go quieter when there is talking?

Hedgehogs123 profile image
Hedgehogs123Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

That's what's happens when I use Spotify and set that app running first before I then start the NRC or the Zombie's app. So yes as soon as Coach Bennett starts talking, the music level drops and comes back up again when he goes quiet. There's some brilliant playlists on Spotify for running or you can your own, I do both.😀🏃‍♀️

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toHedgehogs123

I mostly use Amazon and have a lot of my made up playlists but i also have Apple music so might try that, I’m still buzzing about that run even after being at work all afternoon and evening lol 😂

Get well soon both. My neighbour was saying that colds have been a constant for them since their child returned to nursery. It’s as if a whole season’s worth had arrived in one go.

On a brighter note, though: you enjoyed the spring sunshine. Looks like we might see some more in the coming week.😁☀️

Sounds like you really enjoyed that run this morning. That threw me as well the first time with those NRC guided runs. Now you know to do your warm up before you press start.

I like the Headspace ones with Andy Puddicombe as well, plus the more conversational "Athlete Stories" ones. I tend to use them without music so I can concentrate on what's being said more easily.

Rotten shame about that cold - I hope you both feel better soon.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toBirdlady64

Thanks, yes it is rotten luck about the cold, a few people have had it at work and i really thought it was because of being in contact with children at home, so I smugly washed my hands and wore my mask but that sneaky cold snuck in somehow, I’m feeling shattered now after 7 hours at work but a couple of paracetamol and a bag of crisps and will feel fine again

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Ooh a bag of crisps always makes you feel better 😋

Good old Coach Bennett 👍 I normally do my 5 min warm up walk, then press start on the NRC Run. Glad you enjoyed your run 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

I’ve just started with NRC...and like you, was a bit fazed that there was no warm up walk! So figured out to do that first, before starting NRC. My free Spotify works fine too!I’ve had a go at the fartlek runs...they’re fun!

Sooo...yay that you’re enjoying running again, and boo that you both have colds. Take care 💕
