It’s Sunday and our usual park is full of people enjoying the mild weather and meeting up outside, so we headed alongside the golf course and parted by the seafront, Willow to head back round the lake and a 30 minute gentle run on his slightly tender knee, me well I said I wanted to run to the pier and back so we blew each other a kiss and went on our way
I crossed the road and looked up, flip the pier looks tiny in the distance, on I went, it was beautiful, the sea flat calm, quite a few people walking in the weak sun, as I got closer to the pier there were more people, i passed 3 camper van type vehicles selling hot coffee and as I passed the pier I got that intense whiff of vinegar that only goes with fish and chips, but what a disappointment!!! the pier is only just over two and a half kilometres from where we park the car so on I plod, a few runners passed going the other way and a couple that passed going my way I used as pacers but couldn’t keep up with for long,
It was so busy I decided to cross the road and leave the sea view
It was much quieter, every time I saw a deep plum coloured car I wondered if Willow had come to meet me, but happily no, none of them was my car
On I ran, slow but sure and reached the other end of Worthing, the 5k mark, so now it’s 5k home and not a step walking so far
I turned and ran back, it was really quite uneventful, 6k check in, feeling fine and the sun breaks through, all that healthy vitamin D on my bare skin, I’m getting somewhat hot around the middle, not only has my hoodie been tied round there for a while but my scarf joined it at the 4k mark because my neck was hot
7k check in, feeling fine, slowing down, feeling a little sore under my left arm pit, ran with my arms out fir a while, now I know why Willow pats talcum powder under his arms, on I plod, 8k woo now into uncharted territory never ran further than 8 k before
Along the way I did some calculations and decided I’d be happy with a time of 1 hr 45 mins
9 k and my right knee was twinging, I straightened up, used my hip muscles my ankles and calves to support the knee and it worked, I got back to the park as I crossed the 10k mark and walked the 500 metres past the golf course back to the car, then I realised how long I’d been and apologised to Willow for being so long
BUT I RAN 10K AND NOT A STEP OF WALKING
mind you some of it was walking pace but I ran the whole way
I beat the gremlins the other day and after a really bad night with little sleep I woke fighting demons and the urge to go back to sleep this morning but had read a facebook post that said “Start the day with determination and you will end the day with satisfaction”
Thank you everyone here you are my inspiration 😀
Before I wrote this I read a post by Dexy5 titled Postcard from Southsea so the pictures are various making a postcard from Worthing and of course today’s route

Congratulations to you Sola on running your first 10K, well done 😀 🏃🏾 🎓I am sure Willow will be very proud of you and you should be very proud of yourself 😊
You know how to get your graduation badge and the word GRADUATE10 next to your username OR do you want to wait until Willow runs a 10K as well, the reason being that you share your username with him WillowandSola??.
I put a request in on the 10k graduate pinned post, I won’t wait for Willow, it’ll be a while, he needs to do some strength and flex to strengthen that knee, and although we share a user name he doesn’t participate here We are both rather proud of me though
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉That sounds like an amazing run _10k in the bag!!
A really inspirational post. Thanks for sharing.
I have never heard that quote about determination before but I think it's brilliant and I will be using it in so many areas of my life in these strange times.
WoW what a truly wonderful run, absolutely thrilled for you...10k seems such a long way off to me at the moment. You must be feeling so pleased and so proud, that is another great milestone. I loved your description of all the various check ins along the way and the fact that you managed the knee twinge, great stuff👍. Fabulous post, thanks for sharing and Congratulations...you're a 10ker...how cool is that😁. 🚶♀️🦌🐢🐌🙋
Amazing, huge congratulations for getting your 10k Sola, that's just brilliant 🎊🎉💐👏🥳🏆🏅🏃♀️💪 You must be feeling over the moon, and rightly so. All your consistency has paid off and it just goes to show that you don't always need to have a plan to get you to where you want to be, you just have to feel it and you'll find your way.
Wonderful photos too, I do love my Forest but I would love to to run by the sea. A plan for next year, hopefully.
Well done again and I hope you celebrate well today, you definitely deserve it 👏👏💐🥳🎉🎊🍾🥂
Thank you, I’ve tried following the garmin 10k plan and gave up at about week 4, I tried following the magic plan and we both ran 8k on that before we gave up and just ran for 30 minutes two or three times a week, Willow has been having knee problems though and runs gently for 30 minutes, that’s not always enough for me and I didn’t really set out to run 10k today i was just enjoying it and carried on then once i got to 5k realised i had to run back again We’ve set up a way of Willow tracking me now though because he was beginning to worry a bit
Forests are wonderful places our woods aren’t big enough to settle into a good run and very steep, we have walked up and ran back down though and that’s special because trees are my very best things
What a run!! 10k, 6.2 miles and you did it. Absolutely fantastic I'm so made up for you 😃 you deserve this feeling so much . I hope you are super chuffed.
Did you really run around the garden? thank you, I do feel rather chuffed and relaxed now after the deepest hottest bath going, i’m not even that achey but can feel a nap coming on
Well done you! Sounds like a lovely run - golf course, sea, pier what more could you ask for? All the better for doing your first 10k. I didn't realise you get a badge for 10k too! I want one! 😂
The administrators put it there, when a runner graduates from C25K or graduate by running a 10K, in most cases, but not all they must go to the Healthunlocked C25K or B210K for that month's Graduate or Graduate10 Homepage and tell the administrators that they have completed C25K or ran their first 10K, some don't and the administrators just put the words Graduate or Graduate10 next to their username from the original post which I think must have happened in your case as you say "I wonder who put it there"
If at the moment you have "60mingraduate" next to your username, that will change to Graduate10 when you tell the administrators that you have ran your first 10K, go to the November Healthunlocked graduate10 homepage and tell them that you have ran your first 10K.
Congratulations Sola, that first 10k is so special and you chose a beautiful morning to do it. We are promoting the south coast well today, plus there is @DavidG in between us in Bognor Regis.
Well done that sounds like a great run , and half of it clad like a cricket umpire too!Working out what to wear or not to wear is still a work in progress for me.
So pleased for you Sola and I hope that you are basking in the glow of that great 10k run 👏👏👏👏👍I hope you are being pampered and that you enjoy a restful evening 😁🤗
Oh wow 🤩 🤩🤩🤩 big congrats on your 10k. And I loved reading how you were able to compensate some knee niggles with posture. I still yet have to get to know my physique as well, in order to know how to change here to get something there. Impressive!
The best thing though, that I forgot to mention, on longer distances I always get a lot of pain in my left shoulder, last week I looked it up and it said I was leading with my chin, so I’ve been practicing tucking my chin in and no shoulder pain at all it’s wonderful I was annoyed that my right knee hurt, it’s usually the left one and i put a tubi grip on that one, but slowed down straightened up, tightened various muscles and it was really good
Thank you, it sort of came as a surprise, but right from the start I kept thinking If I just run 5k then I will have to run back again I knew how long it was taking but had t thought how long Willow was waiting for me to return, we’ve set up tracking so he can see where i am in future
That’s a good idea the note, although when I left Willow I said I was hoping to get as far as the pier and when I got to the sea front i could see the pier and it was tiny I thought I’d never run that far, turns out just over two and a half k looks a long way across beach and sea
Wow Sola what a lovely post and a lovely 10k for you, well done! If you can do it, l can, as they say! (But I don't feel ready just yet!) I love reading your posts; you're always so positive, so thank you for being like that 🤗
Thank you so much, I had gremlins on Friday and woke with demons this morning but running is such a positive thing for me, and you will do it when the time is right
Many Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 on running your first 10km Sola 🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🎖🎖🎖🎓🎓🎓 can’t wait to see your Graduate10 badge sparkling!! What an inspiration you are, truly amazing, well done you ⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏💪💪💪Willow must be so proud of you, well done. You must be feeling so amazing 💪💪💪
Great job - it sounds like a very relaxing gentle run. And 10k!! I started running 2.5 years ago and I still find writing those words - together - unbelievable. 🙄 Happy running - keep safe
Con- gra- tu- la- tions... and celebrations. Hooooooraaaaaaay 🤩💃🥂👍🥳🏃♀️. The perfect run, so pleased for you and and a plus, as it was unexpected. Give me another year and I might have joined you - still slowly making my way towards 6k😂🤣😁🏃♀️!!!
Thank you, Willow is mostly happy with a half hour run but we did run 8k together a while ago, I’m trying to introduce the joy of running along the seafront to him, tomorrow’s being we plan to run along the prom
Glorious, Sola! Look at that lovely new badge too 🌟😍And now I've read that FB post, I'm going to get up and do my stretches 😁 (had a terrible nights sleep in my defence 😳)
