And I laughed and laughed, not because he looked funny but because we got out the car and it was blowing a hooley on the seafront. I’m mean. But he reckoned the park would be too busy so we drove to the end of town where the prom is wide, ran back towards the pier then back again.
First k wind in our faces a glance at my watch said we were going too fast slowed down, dodged lots of families and round a couple of camper van type selling coffee burgers and ice creams, nearly fell over a kid on a scooter and ran on, first 1k 9.33 ran on, jeffed a bit sprinted round people stopped to take a pic of the pier, although why i thought anyone would want to see a gloomy sky with a pier in it I don’t know, turned, where’s Willow? he must have turned before me he started his garmin a bit before mine, saw him in the distance so ran faster, runner passed me so kept up with him for a while second k 9.03 jeffed a bit more and caught Willow up he stopped when we saw the car, I carried on to get third k in 9.06 walked back to the car and home for tea.
We are faster on the seafront, got fastest mile on Garmin, PR times 4 on strava, it was a lot more windy than here about a mile inland, went back down to garmin fitness age of 49 😀 and agreed to keep our runs mostly short because that doesn’t wear us out and once a week a longer run/walk over the downs
We saw a group of runners in yellow shirts, probably the local running club about 6 together and a couple further ahead, we saw they have repainted the turn point for parkrun on the prom so there’s hope yet
Happy easter 🐣 enjoy your weekend

It sounds like your run this morning was a good one for blowing the cobwebs away. Willow’s brave to wear shorts in this weather! I walked a 5k with the dog this morning and needed my woolly hat, so it’s cold on this side of the Downs too. Good news about repainting the Parkrun markers 👍🏼🏃🏼♀️😊. I’m still to run my first official Parkrun. Better get myself back to that 5k then - that’s a good incentive to have. Happy Easter 🐣 xx
He warmed up and it’s cooler but the wind blowing in our faces along the seafront was a bit of a surprise, We haven’t run an official Parkrun and I don’t think Willow will but i might be tempted
It was a good run thanks and made me realise that we need these short and sweet ones just for fun, I thought he was a bit ambitious with the shorts but that wind was something else
I found on the Distance Plan that I really didn’t enjoy the 4K (so called) short runs. As a slow runner, they weren’t really short! I’m happy now to revert to 3K, or 30 minutes...which ever slots in best on the day’s route 👍
Well done Willow for exposing those legs to the bracing sea winds, you’re a braver man than me, I’m still in my running tights until the sun decides to make an appearance. 👍 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Ha ha ha he got a pair of real running shorts for his birthday last week and has worn them on every run since which was fine in the sun and no wind runs but the seafront was a bit of a surprise
I think I’d like to come on a run with you both for the entertainment value, even though a lot of the entertainment is actually going on in your head 😂
Lovely blow-the-cobwebs-away breezy run for you both. It’s cold here today now, I’m sure it was warmer when I was drinking my cuppa first thing this morning!
Oh no it’s laugh out loud entertainment you know, my grandson was horrified when we took him on a zombies run and i yelled “yay we’ve got a baseball bat” he said i would scare people I said they’d just think i was a loon and he agreed, trouble is that it’s music in your ears conversation is a bit loud at times, but I was so lucky to have found Willow i’ve never had so much fun than since we got together just over 8 years ago
Great run both of you and Willow brave in shorts. Does the sea come right up to the shingle on to the road. Maybe it’s deceiving with the water in front of the shingles 🤔
It does on a winter stormy night but mostly only half way so there’s still beach at high tide, high tide means a couple of steps in and you are at swimming depth as it’s steep
A very happy Easter to both of you, glad you enjoyed your run in the wind today, I always cycle in shorts but only run in shorts if the temperature is above 10C/50F.
The temp was about 8c this morning, it was the wind that surprised us, it was blowing over the downs from the north, Happy Easter Al, and thanks for all the support and comments this last year
Well done both of you and especially Willow for wearing his shorts, its good to get some air at our legs but maybe you got a bit more than you wanted with added in obstacle course. 👏👏👏I love your photo 😊
Colder than here then, I once went to Middlesbrough in October and was taken to a beach, tide was out so I stripped down to my undies and ran into the sea, I hadn’t realised it could be that cold lol 😂
I didn't wear only shorts on my run this morning, though I probably could have, with enough coverage on my top half. The "feels like" on the weather forecast was too pessimistic.
By late afternoon it was warm enough in the sun for me to be out walking in shorts and polo shirt.
My preferred running temperature (tee shirt and shorts) is around 12°C, and hopefully not much in the way of a breeze.
Well done to Willow for getting out in the chilly breeze and showing a leg.
Great run for you Sola but shorts, Willow? Really! I know what you mean about running on the prom - ours gets pretty busy too but taking avoiding action all the time certainly keeps us on our toes doesn’t it!
Sounds like a happy fun run. Bright , breezy and highly. Your posts make me smile as I at in bed with a morning coffee about running instead of doing it!
Ok so I hit the reply button by mistake and sent a very muddled message _should have said: Bright, breezy and giggly. Your post makes me smile as I sit in bed with a morning coffee reading about running instead of doing it!
People are all over the place, it’s good to see so many out to be honest but before covid on a chilly day we would have pretty much had the prom to ourselves it would have been shops cafes and bars that were full, oh and hairdressers of course
Your post made me smile so much . ‘Blowing a Hooley’ is pretty much our weather most days. A calm day is what gets remarked on 😂🤷🏼♀️Comes with the lovely territory though 😉👌
I always find turning direction straight into a wind makes me laugh , I know it’s there but always a shock going into it 😂💨🌊🌪
Happy Easter and happy running to the pair of you ☀️🐣
I do love a short run - sometimes I've even done just 20 minutes because I'm really busy. Those are the most virtuous runs 😇😆. Loved the image of the two of you weaving in and out the coffee and ice cream vans. Willow's legs must have been bright blue as well! I'm always amazed at the runners in shorts up here - I've seen them in the dead of winter too. I'm usually well covered up until I reach the par-boiled stage!
Me too on the par-boiled stage, although I get hot running so often tie my jacket round my waist. Actually his legs looked ok after and he said they were ok after the initial shock lol 😂
Sounds like an all round good run. Refreshing, fun, and fast! You've given me an idea to do shorter runs, I'm always on 5/6/7 k, or walking. I have been intending to go faster over shorter distance and see where that leads. Do you feel more achey or less compared to longer runs ? Happy running and best wishes ☺️
Hi and thanks, well we were definitely less achy yesterday after our short flat run than today when 5k took nearly an hour over the hills Half an hour is a nice wake me up run and I’m never going to be speedy but do push myself for parts of it and the faster bits are getting faster
