Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Running can be so frustrating sometimes. I have been training since the end of October and all through the winter for a PB attempt at parkrun on the 22nd of March. I took vitamins and supplements and made sure to keep colds away only for one of my boys to come home from school with a cold last week and it has spread through our house. It’s just a head cold but I’ve been miserable with it since Wednesday. Too tired and weak to run this morning I decided to cancel my plan of parkrun tourism and instead went to my local parkrun and walked it with my Cocker Spaniel Ruby. I walked it in a time of 46:21. Happy running everyone.
True, that time- last year I’m preparing for a 10K, things going smoothly racking up the training miles, injury free, pottering around at home & manage to step/slip onto an upturned plug…the pain 😖 no training for a while, though did manage to hobble around my local parkrun.
Snakes and Ladders Damien….and sometimes there seems to be nothing but snakes! You will bounce back quickly.
I did another Park Run today, and took my new shoes for a first outing! Back to Albert Park in Middlesbrough with my friend Mike (who is younger and faster!). I think that the sunny warm weather encouraged a big turn out; 401 runners. I finished in 223 position with a Park Run time of 29:34, and age related grade of 62.06% (whatever that means). My time for 5k was 28:45 and I managed negative splits again. That is 28 seconds slower than my 5k PB, so a new PB may be in reach at some point. Most important aspect is the fact that everyone is so friendly; there was a real cheer when the 400th Park Run of a lady was announced, and an equally loud one for a youngster reaching the age of 4 and thus being able to sign up. The weather was glorious; coffee and chat to finish, net result, I arrived home completely chilled out. Mike seems pretty keen to repeat the exercise, so there may be more PRs ahead! Hope everyone had a great day (cold not withstanding Damien ).
It was my pal’s round; came back with two Americanos; needs training! I came home, showered, and then persuaded MrsBC that it was far too nice to hang around indoors, so we took Molly out…. Flat white and an egg and bacon roll; I was starving!!
I think going with someone else helps; runners are few and far between amongst friends in my age group! Albert Park is a really speedy venue; gives we old timers a bit of a buzz!😁
Thanks Sandie; that’s why I go so often 😂! I have to confess that I really enjoyed it. It was so warm; one shirt weather really. It is definitely a fast track. The person finishing first completed the (more than 5k) run in 17.02. No wonder locals call it the PB park.
Oh Damien, what a shame, but crikey that’s going some for a 5k walk! Hope your cold isn’t long lasting. Nice weather for a walk though, and I bet Ruby loved it. 🥰
Sorry to hear that you have succumbed to the lurgy damienair . My cold last month really knocked me back and I’ve still not got my breathing bacj to normal. Well done for still getting out with Ruby though. .
Sorry about your head cold Damien but I hope you and Ruby enjoyed your walk at parkrun this morning, 46:21 is a good time for walking 5K
I wasn't at parkrun either, instead I travelled by bus into Glasgow 13 miles from where I live and ran 3K along the Clydeside Walkway in a time of 19:05, this is a very popular run for runners, I counted 46 other runners but was only passed by 4, all were very friendly, just like parkrun.
It was a very good morning for me BC66, I regularly go to 4 parkruns in rotating order, Dunfermline, Drumpellier, Springburn and Palacerigg Country parkrun, but from time to time I like that run alongside the River Clyde where I see many other running, I call that my 5th UNOFFICIAL parkrun.
Not sure. My breathing is a little affected. Cough is getting better. I won’t have ran in a week. So I think realistically I’ll just have to wait for a month and retry then. Just so annoying as I was so consistent with my training plan and was out in frost, rain, sleet and snow all throughout the winter. I’ll start back again on Tuesday evening.
Hello Everyone, Parkrunners, joggers & walkers haven’t posted in a while.
First spring like PR this year, jacket off, but still I have this blockety nose that requires me to have tissues about me.
I like spring it’s when I run fastest according to the stats.
I was at my v hilly local- Hilly Fields, a regular runner turned 70 today & there was chocolate cake to celebrate.
I’m in marathon training- London -April 27, but I still want to keep up with my parkruns, so I take it a bit easier oh Saturdays, so I go for my long run as per my training plan 2hrs + on Sunday…
That’s my little report I got 30.05mins, hope to regularly post again.
Well done AdieB. I have sneaked back into Park Runs too. PB chasing usually ends in a niggle for me, so I need to be careful, but there is nothing quite like a bit of speed is there?
Hi damienair , We went to Roberts Park parkrun this morning a really nice morning, this course is fairly flat a pb course and one of the biggest in West Yorkshire, My time 30.17 my quickest this year I'm very happy with this but still way of my pb 28:58.My foot is still not brilliant but better than what it has been. A couple of the lads had a pb this morning so overall a great morning. Well done all volunteers and any runners/ walkers this morning.
Katnap and I were RDs today at Stratford upon Avon. It’s been a beautiful morning and we were expecting large numbers. I made sure we had a lot of volunteers in strategic places and the funnel was extra long just in case. In the end we had 50 less than last week. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s difficult to second guess these things but better safe than sorry anyway.
We did have an extra special guest who sneaked in and out thinking he wasn’t spotted. 700 year old royalty in the form of the actor currently playing Edward II across the water at the RSC. He’s pretty nippy for one of such grand age!
So it was a fairly sedate parkrun in the end. The barcode scanners didn’t want to leave, they were enjoying the sun so much, and for once the funnel wasn’t a muddy mash up at the end. After a hectic week it was nice that it was so chilled.
Hello all, Severn Bridge for Jenny, baby and myself this morning. Couldn’t resist the rare perfect conditions and people were treated to my lily white arms and lower legs with my vest and capris! Today was PR no 186 for me and 86 for Jen. We’re aiming to get the 200/100 on the same weekend some time this summer. 😀
I’ve had a weird winter with very little running (compared to prior ones), but I have upped my strength work, so my time of 39:23 (Garmin) was about right and comfortable throughout. Let’s see how not running further than 10k for ages will work for next week’s HM. 😅 Jenny came in in 32 something, with buggy, and we of course celebrated delightful runs with a massive breakfast after. 😋
TailChaser was RD today and had sent out the request for folk to wear purple for International Women’s Day. I contemplated going ‘full suffragette’ but wasn’t sure I could run in a skirt and I need to keep the outfit fit for a talk I’m delivering on Suffragettes and Shakespeare on Tuesday. So the best I could do was a purple (well more magenta, but let’s not get picky) top and green leggings, with white socks and my Votes for Women rosette. Well done to all the ladies and gents who turned out in purple today!! As the motto Mrs Pankhurst selected for the WSPU (possibly from Shakespeare’s ‘All is True’) ‘Deeds not Words’.
Finally made it to Hilly Fields parkrun today. Been putting it off forever because of the hills 😅 I found the trick is to run steady and slow down. I’m not chasing PBs at the moment, so it worked.
The hills were tough, but the toughest hill in a parkrun for me remains Ally Pally’s winter course though
Hello damienair and folks. Today was our last run at our current site and next week we will return to our original , more central start point,
It was brilliant to see so many runners in purple for International Women’s Day. I just happened to have a purple tutu and my v25 shirt at the ready. One of our runners who is also a magician and balloon artist, produced some purple flower bracelets to celebrate the day. So thoughtful. There was a fall in front of me on the outward leg, so I stopped to check all was well, and ensure that it wasn’t a dog trip that caused it, but all was well, and he later overtook me. A little boy grazed his hands on a fall too so the RD was kept busy with the first aid kit.
UpTheStanley was at a turning cone so I threw him my gloves to look after. 19 mph easterly made it a bidt hard work and slower on the return but a gentleman paced me along until I told him to head for the finish.
After all that , we took all the equipment down to our new home and did a practice set up and returned the kit to its new storage space. Too late for breakfast so we went and had a panini and cappuccino for lunch instead.
Whoops , forgot to say a slower 37:09 this week. Not surprised after the stop. But there’s always another week.
What a happy pic Dexy5! Pleased to hear that the age of chivalry is not quite dead.
Well done on your Health and Safety activity too. You really look after your runners.👩⚕️
I had quite forgotten how hungry a Park Run makes me feel; in fact I need a top up right now! Blueberries and plain fat free yoghurt isn’t everyone’s choice, but it works for me!🙂
I ate porridge before I set off; 7 am alarm allows me just enough time to fit everything in before I set off in the car.
10 mile run planned for Monday; I would like to think that this weather will last until then, but unlikely! Nice to have had a glimpse of spring though.
Will you be sad to say goodbye to that course Dexy5 ? I think I’d better plan another visit because it’s only right that a travelling chipmunk samples all the Southsea courses!
It will be a bit sad as it’s quite nice to see people more than once during the run. But it will be a lot easier for the first time briefer having an out and back course. Definitely give it a while for things to settle down, as we may need to tweek things after a few weeks. I am sure that we can find a good reason for you to travel here. 😂
If our runners don’t behave themselves, and allow space for other prom users, we might be sent back, 😱
Funny you should say that. I’m a running marshal next week to ensure everything looks right, as all the rest of the core team will be at the funnel and bottlenecks. No megaphone but I am used to shouting at people. 😂
I did a bit of tourism today, at Battersea parkrun. Absolutely glorious weather and a beautiful, flat, location. I ran a bit more than my physio would be pleased about 🤫😬 but so far my knee has not complained. 1165 parkrunners/walkers but there was plenty of room for all of us, particularly at the back of the pack. Official time of 40:10 which is my fastest for a very long time. Met a couple of friends there and had a lovely mooch about the Battersea Power Station shops and cafes. Would definitely do this one again.
Your secret is safe with us Mudita11! That is a huge number of people. Good to see you progressing…..you are too sensible to push too hard (just like me 🤥 !!).
Family here this weekend so brief report, but managed to fit in parkrun before they arrived. Beautiful morning so first time this year in just a t-shirt. Happy with a 31.16 time - one second faster than last week and hence fastest this year. 199th parkrun - hopefully 200 next week!
Our local club had a Parkrun takeover to celebrate the c25k graduation of over 20 participants. Those not on the course ran with the graduates for support & they all made it to the end, a wonderfull day with medals & certificates for the graduates & cake! While I only managed 38 minutes, my 12 year granddaughter running her first parkrun unaccompanied managed 34 minutes.
