Think about the things you worried about last year, or even last week. How many came to pass? Statistically, 10 percent at most! And did all your worrying make them better or worse? And what about the physical and emotional toll that worry is taking on you? Dr. Charles Mayo, founder of the famous Mayo Clinic, said, ‘Worry negatively affects the circulation, the heart, the glands, and the whole nervous system. It profoundly affects your health. I have never known a person who died from overwork, but many who died from worry.’ So when are you going to face up to the fact that you worry too much, and do something about it? ‘What can I do?’ you ask. The Bible says, ‘Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.’ By committing each day to the Lord, you are trusting Him to go before you and work things out for the best. It’s the only way to live! Worry doesn’t work. It’s like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do and keep you going, but it won’t get you anywhere! Life is too big for any of us to handle alone. So when worry comes to prey on your mind, attack it with the promises of God. Go ahead, bring your fears to God and watch them shrivel and die: ‘…It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life’ (Philippians 4:7 TM). George Muller said, ‘The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.’
God will take care of you.: Think about the... - Anxiety Support
God will take care of you.
Absolutely right!! God bless!
Blimey, im sorry but i couldnt think of a less appropriate message to blog on an anxiety page! I understand completely that you have good intent but perhaps you could be a little more realistic that your message may not be best placed here. If it meets your personal needs and beliefs thats fantastic.
But for those of us who don't believe we suffer from anxiety out of choice (who would!?) its not a great message to send.
And for those of us who are not religious we might say that god is one f*cked up fella if he created some sort of twisted hell on earth like this.
Its a shame in an ever modernising world that we can't just focus on being good people for the sake of being a good person. Religion seems very outdatted to me indeed. Im sure this opens a never ending debate that we probably dont need to go in to but i do firmly believe that to imply that mental illness is a choice is not appropriate.
Sorry, this is one of those ocassions where people would rather i not have said anything im sure, but i just cant ignore something like this, sorry x
Hi,
I do understand your feelings,I really do.& thank you very much for sharing them so eloquently!
In retrospect, that was a tad 'preachy';it was actually meant for christians rather than non-believers.
As 'a believer',I actually have the immense comfort of knowing that God is with me through all my troubles,& just wanted to share that with someone.
Hi Suffolk,
I'm a Christian too and I really struggle with this. I understand what you are saying but I find it so hard to reconcile my beliefs with the reality of life with anxiety and depression. To the point where I frequently question whether I can be a real Christian if I still have these thought patterns, like I don't have a proper faith. I'm glad your faith gives you hope and comfort. It frightens me that mine is still more a source of fear and distress. It shouldn't be like this.
I didn't comment when you're first posted as I've heard all this before from well meaning people who don't understand what it is like to have a mental health problem. However, having read your later posts I know that you do know what it is like to suffer and the impact it has on your life.
I'd be interested to hear how you reconcile the two.
Best Wishes,
Lizard.
Like you, I struggle with the two issue. There seems to be an attitude with some Christians that, if you persist in suffering despite prayer, you must be doing something wrong, you are at fault. I don't think so, because Jesus himself warned us, that we would suffer in many ways if we follow Him.
I copied my blog from UCB Word dor the Day, since it discussed anxiety I hopped it might comfort some people. But I find it hard at times too, to find comfort in it myself, in honesty. Is you church supportive?
