male here having inguinal hernia recurrent repair for the fifth time. not young anymore 81. now also recovering from a two week cold. was on amoxicillin for 10days. have a lot of fear about this coming event. not being able to urinate before being released from the hospital.. getting very weak as well. catching cold again. haven't taken the new covid shot yet due my recent acute bronchitis and step throat. all of this is causing me to feel nervous and depressed. its sure difficult to be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation.

Hi,Wishing you all the best for the operation.

Have you thought about doing some relaxation techniques?

My dad learnt something new at 94 and was amazed. He had never been exposed to music on headphones and meditation before his last operation.

In general, he was a very "nervous nelly" so we asked for a sedative and arranged for someone to sit with him while waiting.

We also requested that he not walk away from his bed for the procedure.

The staff at the hospital couldn't have been more helpful once his needs were known.

The best thing to do is make sure you have a list so that when you check in these things are taken care of.

Hi flaxxy703, blackcat64013 is right in that letting the doctor and anesthesiologist

know of your concerns before hand can help a great deal. They will make you as

comfortable as possible before the surgery and after.

However...I may not be a doctor but I would let your doctor know that you are once

again coming down with a cold. Does he know of your previous bronchitis?

They might want to postpone it for a bit. Wishing you well flaxxy... :) xx

I agree with Agora. You would feel better, I think, if you spoke to your doctor about the cold, bronchitis, age, urinary concerns, etc. x

I might have an inguinal hernia, any tips? I'm sure you are in good hands with your medical team I am hospital phobic myself but most docs are pretty good if you let them know. When you are in recovery there will no doubt be things you can do eating well, exercise, vitmins (vit c and zinc are particularly useful for cold and flu). Wishing you peace and a speedy recovery.
