i was fast asleep last night when suddenly my eyes opened and i was shivering and i wrapped myself up waiting to calm down but it just wouldn’t go. it was warm but the shivering and scarey feeling just wouldn’t go. i thought i was going to die. i got up and sat on the chair and it just wouldn’t go. my throat was tightening it was an awful terrible experience. finally went but lasted about 15 minutes. does anybody understand? and does that sound like a panic attack? i just want to know why that happened an assuming it was that. thanks

sudden scare
Hi Junny, I would say if you didn’t have a temperature and the room wasn’t cold it does sound like a panic attack. I use to shake from head to foot, tightness in chest and air hunger. I cobbled together a form of cbt for someone else which worked for them so used it on myself and am now panic free for nearly five years. The nearest I’ve heard to it on here is the Dare Technique on YouTube, It works for some but not everyone. The hardest part is getting rid of the fear, while your having one and when is it going to happen again. Of course there are meds that can help too but I didn’t go down that route. Try to keep as calm as you can if it happens again which I know isn’t easy. I found slow deep breathing also helped. Good luck and go and see your GP if they continue.
I would definitely say that's a panic attack I've suffered from them in the past mate
It does sound like you experienced a panic attack, and it can be really unsettling and confusing. You might check out the DARE Anxiety youtube videos or the youtube of Paige Pradko about what panic attacks are and how best to deal with them. it sounds like yours only lasted about 15 minutes which is great so you know they are only temporary and don't last.
Dear Junny123,
I Don't know you and I'm Not from this 'Forum', I have ANCA Vasculitis, and while I agree that this was 'Most Likely' a Panic Attack, another thought has occurred to me. Might this be a 'Form' on Epilepsy? Similar to a Petit Mal? I only mention this because a friend, from some years back now, would 'Go Still (Almost Rigid), Become Unresponsive, and sometimes Shiver too'.
Only a Thought
