hi everyone,

Just looking for words of reassurance I suppose.. I’ve always had major health anxiety, worry about every little thing - not too sure where it stems from. Even from when I was little I’d freak on being sick - I still do now.

I’ve always had a thing with medicine.. I mean I’m 21 and all I take is my contraceptive pill & if I feel poorly all I manage is calpol… says it all really LOL!

Anyway, I’ve had chest pains on and off for years, docs said it was anxiety & never looked into it, tben recently my heart rate was picked up on and thankfully was sent to hospital, been back and fourth with appointments and thankfully it’s been ruled out as not being cardiac!!!

anyway I went to the docs yesterday and she’s given me medication in the hope it takes away the chest pain ( i won’t mention which one because peoples opinions will probs make the stress worse LOL) I’ve been so nervy about taking it.. I just took the first one, instant shaky, heart beating fast, on the toilet with D. And a little nausea.. + a bit of crying , obviously a panick attack. I know medicine helps and I know it’s a trial to make me feel better & this medicine is used to treat anxiety too so I suppose that’ll help… I jsut don’t know how to get over this fear - obviously the way I felt straight after taking it was panick and I’m sure it will be a for a while, do I carry on? How do I stop this anxiety & does anyone else get like it?

Hi Babyelxxx, The thing about anxiety is that we have learned not to trust anyoneor anything. This ends up hurting us more by making us judgmental with things that

may help us in the end. Trusting in your doctor's choice of what may be the key to

your issues is a must.

I have found that once I started trusting in my doctor, I could trust in the medications

he prescribed. Without trying, we end up living in pain or fear.

Whenever I take a new medication, I do it w/o checking with Dr Google, without asking

others how they feel about it since that can have a negative impact on how your perceive

the drug to work.

I wait until someone is at home with me, tell them what I'm taking and when. I also write

down the name of the drug, the dose and the time. After that, I make sure I don't just

sit there focusing on every little thing I feel. I keep busy, I make sure I hydrate as well

as have some food with it. Once you've gotten through the first day, it becomes much

easier in not anticipating anything negative. Instead I focus on the positive effect this

will have for me.

I wish you well. I have been on a drug similar to what you are describing and I feel

amazing. Once the symptoms we once stressed over are gone, we forget about and

anxiety goes down making us go forward with our lives. Good Luck :) xx

Hi, I've been in your shoes and know it is not a nice place to be, but it is up to you to take back control of your life - the alternative will not be helpful. When these things happen, take yourself into a place of calm, a place where you feel at ease. Try some deep breathing exercises, read some poetry, celebrity news - if you like celebs, anything that will take your mind off what is happening to you. Avoid doom and gloom, and stop trying to make sense with what is going on in your body. Just let if flow over you with your breathing. Next become aware that the doctor who has prescribed this medication especially for you, has had extensive training and study to get where he/she is in the position to prescribe, and put your trust and hope to work. Take your medication exactly as you have been told. Read through the information enclosed in the packet, but don't gloss over the ingredients, just the do's and don'ts. Whatever you do, DO NOT GOOGLE THE MEDS this can be counter productive because your meds may be used for many different ailments, and it is so confusing once you get started on the google machine, you become hooked and will in the long run be far worse off. Finally - although this is something I do firstly - is pray. Even if you have no belief in GOD, believe me, He believes in you, and wants only that which is good for you. He loves you, whether you believe in Him or not. You don't need good luck for any of this just the courage to make a stand for yourself.

Hi Babyel

Do you have some outdoor places near you? If so….one of the best things that you can do for yourself is go for a walk in the countryside, a local park, or anywhere that you can communicate with nature…lthe sky, the trees and get some fresh air. If you do this regularly you will find yourself taking some good deep breaths and will be admiring what’s around, above and below you. A really good way of calming your inner self down! AND COSTS NOTHING TOO! Bonus! Honest….it’s so good and IT WORKS. Ask a friend to go along with you if you like then you both get a benefit.

Lavender essential oil is a safe oil and is known to balance your blood pressure. It’s good for relaxation too. Put eight drops into your bath and have a soak for 15 mins. OR. Put 5-6 drops into a bowl of warm water and stick your feet into it while you watch tv for 15 mins. Buy Lavendula Augustifolia as it’s the TRUE lavender!

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon.

Ellie-Ann.

If I feel not sure about a tablet/ pill I’m taking. I check the patient leaflet that comes with the pills. I’m not good at tolerating prescription pills but usually try one. And it’s that one that usually ( but not always) tells me if I can tolerate them or not. I hated taking pills as a child. ( often ill) the taste was awful. But odd times, I was left with the pill (probably Aspirin. ) to take on my own. So I expect you can guess what happened to that ! One thing though, when I look back on the situation is that I was never ill when I went to stay with my Granny in the summer holidays which was a total different environment. I was very happy staying with her.
