Hi Everyone, I haven't been here in a while, it's usually the case when things are going well. But recently I've developed this bad sleeping habit. (?)
What's confusing is it came out of the blue. Something similar has happened before when my anxiety was bad ( I don't feel it's bad right now tho). As soon as I'm about to go into the first phase of sleep, my mind becomes aware of it and wakes me up. Its ongoing for nearing two weeks now. I'm going to my GP today to get a sleep aid because I'm terrified I'm never getting enough sleep again. All this gets me anxious during the night, making everything worse.
Has anyone else experienced this before? What could I do?

I think you are doing the right thing going to your GP.
I used the sleeping tablet zopiclone for a few weeks only and only ever took half a 7.5 tablet but it did the trick. It is now something I can fall back on for a few days if I need it. It is very important never to increase the dose prescribed because it is addictive. The other thing is to try to get a good routine at bedtime , no screens an hour before bedtime, hot bath to relax etc, read a book to wind down if this relaxes you.
My GP prescribed Melatonin to see if it helps me. If that does not help much she also prescribed temazepam, mainly because I told her I took it once before only one night and that it seemed to regulate my sleep for some reason. I have never heard of the medication you mentioned, after a google search it seems safer than temazepam however.
Thank you for the suggestions, I will try that tonight. I just need a good sleep.
Yes, my sleep causes me many problems. I can't go to sleep because the worst thoughts start running through my head, 5 mins in the pillow with anxiously guys results in me being up all night, I can't get into bed until I'm physically exhausted
Maybe try some over the counter meds first like benydryl, unisom, valerian root? Be wary of using temeazepam, benzodizeapines are very habit forming and difficult to stop. If using a prescription med perhaps lunesta or Ambien are better choices, but they to can become habit forming. Good luck and be well.
This used to happen to me, I was existing in a constant state of exhaustion. Went to see my GP and through a sleep study I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Since treatment I sleep wonderfully, feel so energised and my crippling anxiety (which I had for 8 years) has completely gone. Apparently sleep apnea and anxiety go hand in hand. Worth knowing if anyone is waking up in the night heart pounding and in a state of panic, best to rule out sleep apnea.
Yes I totally understand you, it worries me if I don’t get my sleep as well. I try listening to low soft
Music and I relax but can’t sleep. Had 2 nights of sleep, one was natural and I had to have a Mild sleeping pill, then the following night I was still wide awake at 1am and started worrying because I couldn’t sleep so I took half of a sleeping pill and still didn’t get to sleep that made me worry even more. I think I got 2 hrs possibly but feel terrible now, body’s tired but brain won’t let
