Sleep Anxiety ? πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ˜–

I'm not sure how many of you deal with this also or have dealt with this but it's probably one of the scariest forms of anxiety you could have. For me it usually happens whenever I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or something then try to go back to sleep. Now let me tell ya...

This sh*t is so weirdly terrifying, it's like you're sleepy and just trying to go to bed but you're having muscle spasms in weird places (arms, feeling heart rate increase right before deep sleep causing you to wake up, finger twitching, and etc)

But what has me wide awake is my fear of seizures and losing control of the body, right before I fell asleep my arm starting twitching and my finger then I had like a muscle spasm in my throat/neckish area which really freaked me out and jolted me awake. And all my brain keeps thinking is "seizure seizure"

Even though I've NEVER had one my 22 years on Earth πŸ˜–πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜₯

Am I the only one that's bad anything similar to this ? Being scared before you get to that point of falling asleep after being woken up ?

I think what you're experiencing is sleep paralysis. Look it up on google!

I don't think that's what it was because I was able to move and what not

But it's just like the point before falling asleep I got freaked out and started having muscle spams and it freaked me out

This sounds like your body is trying to relax to get ready for sleep. If you have anxiety your body can be wound so tight with or without you realising it that when you go to bed you can feel every twitch or spasm. This happens to me every night. Your brain will automatically think the worst as this is your deepest fear. You just have to keep reminding yourself that anxiety is to blame. X

I have this every night, I think it's the body relaxing and because we are so tense all the time we are not used to this feeling and so we freak out, I get dead arms and legs and feel like I can't breath when trying to fall asleep, I also get a jolt just before I got to sleep like a thud in my chest that panics me into staying awake.

Damn anxiety!

Yup you explained it perfectly

Like a jolt of anxiousness that wakes you right back up

It's just crazy how anxiety can do this to you, when I first started exhibiting symptoms of anxiety I was convinced I had a brain tumour because it can do some nasty things to you! It's just nice that there is places like this so we don't feel so unique and alone in our symptoms!

Yes exactly !

I feel a lot better since I had tests ran on me a few days ago and results and X-rays were perfect health.

But when I also first started dealing with this I thought everything was wrong from brain issues to heart attacks etc. I'm slowly getting better at dealing with it but I at least wanna be able to sleep without it πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚

Anxiety and panic are very hard to control but knowing that we are in control and it's just in our heads is the first and biggest step

I'm going for an ultrasound soon because I have a strong pulse in my stomach so I'm sure you can imagine what that's doing to my anxiety lol I'm automatically assuming that I'm going to drop dead at any moment!

Sleeping should be a time with no anxiety lol but anxiety is a total knobhead that will not leave you alone even for a second πŸ˜‚

I'm really glad you're doing a lot better and are starting to accept its in your head, I think I'm half way there, hopefully this ultrasound won't tell me I'm dying and I can try and get a handle on this :)

Sending postive sleeping vibes for tonight ^=^

I too an suffering with nocturnal panic attacks. Go to bed around 10:30ish and by anywhere from 4-6 I am awake with panic attacks. When I get up I am so shaky and unsteady and weak. I am going from Celexa to Zoloft and am wondering if that is why it has been so bad lately. I know it takes up to 6 weeks to get to the target doseage and really realize any benefit. I cant wrap my brain around that this is all in my head. How do you do that ??

See I'm glad I'm not the only one

Idk why but I've been having it recently the last two days

I haven't had them in almost 6 months but it's happening again and I hate it

It's worse then waking anxiety / panic in my opinion because sleeping should be relaxing

Only good thing is when I finally come down I sleep like a baby

A few times I've had the feeling that my heart stops when I'm about to drift off to sleep... it's scary. I'll be lying there almost asleep and then a burst of anxiety shoots me awake.. like i almost died or something.

But I've learned that if I take some time to myself before bed to wind down.. and make sure that I take my anxiety medication before bed I'm good! Anxiety stinks! Best wishes & take care

Thank you !

Usually it happens if I wake up in the middle of the night for something, then it has me shaky and on edge making it hard to fall back asleep so I just stay up for a little till I just pass out from exhaustion

Omg if you read my recent post I am going through exactly the same thing as you!!
