Eyes are feeling odd

Hi been on a couple of times these last weeks just looking for a bit of advice. My anxiety has really spiked these last weeks for no apparent reason my main issue is this weird feeling I get with my eyes which makes me especially tense when I am driving, started in January then eased off after some sertraline however the side effects weren’t good for me and my BP spiked so came off them in July after having CBT also. Not been so bad then the eye issue has returned with a vengeance!! Can’t explain it other than they feel very strained, dry and like I am not quite present??!! Had 3 eye tests when it happened earlier in the year all ok (I wear glasses for driving) doctor says anxiety. Just want it to stop any advice reassurance that it is part of the evil that is anxiety would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been having the same thing, my anxiety recently came back giving me chest pains and all sorts of stuff including my eyes feeling a bit weird i think i have eye strain but im also having headaches which is triggering my anxiety to believe i have like a brain tumor or something but we all will get through this i know its tough.

Today I feel completely rubbish but trying to soldier on at work! Spoke to docs again and they are going to do more extensive blood tests on me however I know it will all come back to the same thing, bloody anxiety! Thanks for your reply

I’ve convinced myself I have a brain tumour. Since my headaches started I’ve seen brain tumour everywhere. On my tv program, on the news, on the internet. It’s like it’s following me trying to tell me that’s what I’ve got. It is awful and making myself sick thinking about it. Terrible weird vision as well and mood swings

If you wear your glasses your headaches might go away.

The optician told me my headaches weren’t vision related. And he told me he suffered from anxiety and he had it. So I’m guessing it just is that rather than my actual eyesight??

Yep well I’m the same here, it’s ruining my life. I can’t do anything without thinking I’m going to get something, or get ill :( I’ve always had social anxiety but had a baby 6 months ago so doctor thinks it’s obviously a mix of the 3... as you can tell I’m still awake with the over talking lol thank you

Hi L1974, I have that same odd feeling in my eyes. Dryness, strained, blurry and the emotional feeling like you are just not all there at times. For me, all a part of the anxious person. I use over the counter artificial tears, which helps a lot. Anxiety affects our muscles including the muscles in our eyes making us experience some of these vision issues. You are not alone

Hi there. I’m in the same boat.. I went to the opticians and they said my eyesight hasn’t changed much (i’m supposed to wear glasses, but don’t) then went back to the doctor today spoke about life etc and said it’s anxiety and depression. Just got sertaline today but haven’t taken one yet. I tried explaining the eye thing to her. I find it worse when I am driving and shopping or just doing physical things in general and making me worry even more. I read that we get the funny eyesight from over tensed right head muscles due to our fear. Also read ‘You will find it more prominent when driving or shopping because the stimulation of so much to take in makes us anxious and the muscles clamp again’ hope this helps x

Thankyou that’s helps I’ve had sertraline earlier this year but docs messed around with dose so much I felt frazzled so came off them and my blood pressure was up and down. They did help a bit initially though, might need something again I think. Good luck
