How risky is 0.5mg Lorazepam 2 or 3 times per week?

I was prescribed 0.5 mg once a day a couple of years ago, for what the dr. decided was panic /anxiety disorder as a result of the heartbreaking stress of caring 24/7 for my much-loved husband in his final couple of years (however, the symptoms didn't appear until 2 years after his death) She suggested that the strange symptoms I was experiencing were a form of PTSD. Later, another dr. said the same thing. Being very afraid of the risk of addiction, I never took more than one 0..5mg Lorazepam in a day, and never more than two or three times in a week -- maximum. Never did finish that 90-day supply. But a few months ago my doctor gave me a new prescription for 90 days's worth of 0.5 mg., assuring me that at that low dose I didn't need to worry about addiction. Again, I take one only when desperate for relief of the panic symptoms. Some weeks I manage on only 1 pill in the whole week, but lately have needed relief from the symptoms more often -- though the most I've ever taken is 4 pills in one week (again, 0.5mg each). After 5 months the 90-day supply is down to 68 pills, so I guess I'm not doing too badly, but still very aware of the potential danger of Lorazepam.

All the above to ask for some opinions and feedback, please. My question: How risky is 0.5mg Lorazepam 2 or 3 times per week? Am I worrying unnecessarily?

All feedback will be gratefully received -- thanks!

I think you will be OK and need not worry.

It's a very low dose. I take 1mg once a day which is also a low dose but I would advise you only take it when you feel it is absolutely necessary which you are already doing. Especially spacing it out during the week is a good idea.

The point of this type of medication is to ensure that the low dose is constant in your bloodstream so as to prevent the bad times

I agree with Osidge. You can afford to take a few more per week.
