I am experiencing high anxiety. I retired and feel kind of lost. I live alone and have no one to talk with. I am a volunteer at a food pantry, I go to a 12 step meeting and I am looking for a partner time job. I would like to hear from others with anxiety.

Hi Milfordct...Welcome to a great supportive community.

Retiring is just another fork in the road that if lucky, we all get to see.

Finding things to do in order to keep your mind and body active is the key.

Volunteering can allow you to meet others as well as having the satisfaction

that you are accomplishing something for others.

Attending a 12 step program is another way in interacting with others

wondering what direction to take now that they are retired. Don't allow

Anxiety to start renting a room in your mind. So many things to do yet.

You are definitely not alone. Helping others will also help you.

You took a first step in coming here as well. It's going to be okay. Give

yourself a little time to adjust. Think of this as a new adventure. So much

to do and experience yet. I'm glad that you are here with us.

It's going to be okay. You are no longer alone new friend :) xx

Hi Milfordct - I’m so sorry. I responded to you and saw your reply however now they’re both gone! I’m not sure what’s happening as I think I’m having technical problems today.

Agora1’s reply to you is wonderful and she’s been a huge source of comfort for me during difficult times with my anxiety. You will find her knowledge and experience top notch👍

I’m not retired so I can’t speak to that but something I didn’t mention in my original reply was writing in a gratitude journal each morning seems to help center me and bring my focus back to the present reminding me of what I do have vs everything that I don’t. I’ve also limited my caffeine which is difficult as I’m a huge coffee lover but I can sure feel the difference when I’m mindful about it. I can get really in my head and over conflate things which is terrible for anxiety so developing a strict schedule and staying busy with things I enjoy really helps keep me more grounded. I’ve also learned not to take myself so seriously because what good does that actually do.

I’m happy you’re volunteering and have joined a group. That’s key in helping to stay positive and engaging with others is so important for our mental health. There’s so many things we can’t predict or control in life so it’s best to just focus on the little things that bring us joy and let them grow over time.

Thanks for your reply to mine. Again, so sorry I don’t know what happened to the replies. Need to look into my system here. Take care and best to you. x
